Said he got tied up would get the shipping quote This dealership 10 days later has never returned my texts or email Stay clear from this dealer! There was dried wax all over the car. They said they would touch up some paint spots. They said they would put some gas in it because the low fuel was at 28 miles left when I test drove it. The car was delivered to me with 23 miles left of gas. Basically they didn't do anything they said they would besides delivering the car to me. I like the car but wouldn't recommend the dealership. I decided I didn’t like the vehicle but I would return to the dealership again if they had something that interested me. Very easy and fair dealership. Got back to me with everything I asked for Harvey was great in keeping in contact with me and letting me know the status of the vehicle. I'm going to recommend them to all my families and friends. I would definitely deal with them in the Year over year, even the baseline trims welcome riders and drivers with all the comforts and conveniences of a five-star hotel on wheels, but at the same price as “just a car.” This year Hyundai has raised the bar on performance and handling, again aiming for that extra unexpected mile in more than just appearance. And keep your eyes peeled for the much-acclaimed Hybrid Sonata, expected in late 2010. Beyond intuitive, the spacious 2011 Sonata has just the right spots to put those things otherwise kicked around on the floorboard and invites you to simply sit back and enjoy the ride. Despite those numbers, this Sonata is one peppy four-banger straight off the line, streaking down the quarter mile in just 15.8 seconds - a mere 3 seconds longer than that stretch of pavement’s hottest trotters. The sport suspension and steering with dual exhaust and larger tires on 18-inch alloy rims provide improved control and power over the GLS and Limited, but reviews indicate even the SE’s handling is still a bit sluggish at high speeds. Of course, what would be a sport edition without sporty style perks - the SE boasts a touch of chrome on the outside and a bit of leather for your steering wheel and tranny knob on the inside. The GLS comes manual with the automatic as an option. Some drivers feel the transmission is periodically sluggish and sometimes defective, but that seems to come from the early release Sonata, manufactured before July 2, 2010. Initially, the 2.4-liter four-cylinder produced 162 hp and was standard in the GL and GLS trims. A five-speed manual was standard (GL only for 2006) and a four-speed automatic was optional with this engine. That year also saw a few more standard features added to the SE and Limited trims, such as satellite radio, Bluetooth, and iPod connectivity. There were also two prominent additions to the features lists - a standard auxiliary audio jack and an optional touchscreen navigation system. Beyond that, the spacious cabin remained unchanged, and although the exterior had a few nips here and tucks there, you will be hard-pressed to tell the difference between Sonatas of this generation. It smothered bumps well and delivered a luscious highway ride, but with its significant body roll and loose steering, it wasn't particularly fun to drive. Power from the efficient four-cylinder engine was competitive, and although the V6 wasn't quite as potent as those in rival sedans, it still got the job done while returning good fuel economy. Inside, soft, high-quality plastics were plentiful, and the overall design was eye-pleasing. Just remember, you get what you pay for -- only in recent years have we seen the kind of build quality and structural integrity which can promise long-term durability. The base car featured a 138-hp, 2.4-liter four-cylinder, and the GLS had a 159-hp, 2.5-liter V6. These numbers may be different from what you might find elsewhere - Hyundai misstated its horsepower ratings prior to 2002, and 11 of their horses had wings and a horn.It now had dual airbags, but no more power under the hood. For instance, the V6 only produced 5 more horses than the four-cylinder. For 1997, the Sonata was restyled dramatically, but not necessarily for the better. Known issues include frequent brake service, broken sun visors, faulty windshield washer pumps and a slow-shifting automatic transmission. If the bumps in the road put an extra knock in your suspension, the faulty strut-mount bushings can be retrofitted with a modern fix to correct that knock. So, we suppose we shouldn’t have been surprised that a short while after Hyundai handed us the keys to a base Sonata we were thinking “this is pretty nice”. The surprise continued through our week with the car, with the growing recognition that this is an all-around win, not just a good effort that falls short but is well priced to compensate the buyer for his trouble. The features are interesting, we suppose, but we can’t help but wonder if the base car might be just as satisfying for tens of thousands less. Problem is, wondering is all we can do because bundled in with all those options are some performance items (adjustable suspension or torque vectoring or a different transmission) that only leave questions about how the base car drives. About the only mainstream items that are obviously missing from the GLS are leather, navigation and a sunroof (all available on the SE or Limited trims). The Sonata also has about 10-percent more horsepower and torque, along with about 10-percent better EPA fuel economy, thanks to lighter weight and a direct-injected four-cylinder engine. To put it simply, the GLS delivers a really good all-around drive. The suspension is moderately firm, with good roll control so cornering is flat and pretty nicely balanced. Because the Sonata is rather light (a good thing) at 3161 pounds, we didn’t get the feeling that the car was fighting us in the turns. The steering offers up some feedback and most important has good on center response along with reasonable quickness. Our tests were conducted in suburban Chicago, about as pothole-laden and frost-heave blighted a place as you’ll ever go (we hope). The firmness that served us well as we scared grandmothers and farm hands during our cornering tests leads to the transmission of bumps into the cabin. The Sonata’s structure is stiff however, and the damping is well-judged, so the ride is never harsh or unpleasant. Still, those looking to float above the flotsam and jetsam of our modern (read: decrepit) road infrastructure may want to look elsewhere. The 198 horsepower four isn’t going to fling one’s toupee into the back seat, but the Sonata moves along well and never feels sluggish. This engine, like many fours, won’t win awards for sound, and the limited torque means some attention to clutch release is needed to be smooth. Lastly, the engineers optimized the body structure to save weight. Speaking of underpinnings, the 2011 Sonata wears independent MacPherson struts up front and an independent multi-link design in the back. There are stabilizer bars front and rear and the SE trim level gets sport suspension tuning. Disc brakes are fitted on all four corners and tucked inside standard 16-inch wheels (the Limited models wear 17-inch alloys, while the sporty SE models have 18-inch wheels).By the time you mix and match the trim levels, transmission and option packages, there are eight different models altogether. Hyundai predicts about 60 percent of buyers will opt for the base GLS model, 10 percent will choose the SE, and the remaining 30 percent will step up to the Limited. Audiophiles who buy the Limited may also upgrade to an even more powerful 400-watt system by Infinity. Your writer's six-foot two-inch frame slid into the driver's seat with plenty of room. Outward visibility is good, and we didn't find any large blind spots on either side that wasn't solved with a simple mirror adjustment.Sure, it's no dragster, but it will chirp its front tires pulling away from a corner (would that be the litmus test?). We merged with traffic smoothly and settled down to a sedate cruise as we looked for the road out of town. The in-house six-speed transmission shifted nearly imperceptibly as it conducted the engine delicately through its paces. Power delivery of the 200-hp four is smooth, but the engine sang in a typical four-pot key (read: not so pleasant). The low rolling resistance tires did make a bit of a racket, but it was only evident because wind noise and is surprisingly low, even on the highway. Nevertheless, our burgundy SE sedan held more than its own when pressed into the corners. The steering was nicely weighed, and the vehicle's overall balance was surprisingly good. Nobody at Hyundai could tell us the weight distribution from memory, but the vehicle's overall low mass and suspension tuning made it enjoyable to drive at spirited speeds.Funny thing, our wives, girlfriends, in-laws, neighbors and friends would rationally prefer the standard softer suspension for their Sonata family sedan. Not us, we like the SE. As mentioned, the EPA rates the automatic models we were driving at 22 mpg city and 35 highway. Well, it seems the 2011 Hyundai Sonata is also out to dispel that age-old calculation.Most drivers arrived back at the hotel with fuel economies in the high-30s and more than a handful dropped into the mid-40s. The day before our arrival, two teams topped an amazing 47 mpg and won a nice dinner for their efforts. Even if we assume the on-board computer was a few miles-per-gallon optimistic, the Sonata was still delivering efficiency more commonly associated with hybrids. Many will be drawn by a window sticker that represents value. Regardless of the motivation, Hyundai has been very successful getting people to buy its products lately. Recent sales figures show its new introductions, both car and SUV, have all been very well received by consumers. The 2011 Sonata is yet another sweet addition to that proven lineup, and it's got a pretty hard candy shell to boot.
