Michael Sylvester 5.0 out of 5 stars Some military misconceptions: bushido is portrayed as a tangible code of rules instead of an ambiguous warrior ethic. They say that the Way of archery (kyudo) was Japan's first martial art and that it existed before the Way of the spear (yarido), which in turn existed before the Way of the sword (kendo), but the Way refers to peaceful applications of deadly arts, which are more accurately (though not universally) referred to as kyujutsu, yarijutsu, and kenjutsu. Something that could have truly added to the book is a listing of credits. On the positive side, the book does a good job of explaining Algren's flashbacks to the Sand Creek massacre, the production of costumes, set, weapons and armor. And of particular note is the training of horses for the film.It is about a white guy who was being hunted by his own police squad in the future and accidentally steps back in time. Where he became captured by these Japanese savages. And he then taught them how to fight with swords. It took Tom Cruise only from fall to spring to master the art of the sword, but it took those silly Japanese people from birth until adulthood to master. He also learned Japanese in the same period of time. He decided to time travel again and disguised himself as a war hero who went to Japan to teach tactics to the Japanese.http://elgazargroup.com/hp-2430dtn-printer-manual.xml

Then he tried to convert all the soldiers to scientology but they refused. Unfortunately, all the samurai's were wiped out. Eventually he got tired and went back in time to absolve himself of all wrong doings by the use of a bald chick who was a psychic. And him and all the scientologists lived happily ever after. Glory be to Xenu!!! Plus, I believe Tom Cruise really loved making the movie because he was taller than all the rest of the cast. He has not felt so tall since he made a live action Lucky Charms commercial with all those kids who were after his lucky charms. The only thing that keeps us from being a five star rating is that some of the scenes that are quoted end it odd times and seem to miss some of the more poignant moments of the film. An American military advisor embraces the Samurai culture he was hired to destroy after he is captured in battle. Badly wounded, Algren's courageous stand makes the samurai leader Katsumoto (Ken Watanabe) spare his life. Once nursed to health, he learns to know and respect the old Japanese way, and participates as advisor in Katsumoto's failed attempt to save the Bushido tradition, but Omura gets repressive laws enacted. He must now choose to honor his loyalty to one of the embittered sides when the conflict returns to the battlefield. — KGF Vissers historically inaccurate alcoholic prostitute white savior drunkenness 297 more Plot summary Plot synopsis Taglines In the face of an enemy, in the Heart of One Man, Lies the Soul of a Warrior. You could spend your life looking for one, and it would not be a wasted life. Crazy credits The opening Warner Bros.Changing his name much like the way Clarence Darrow and William Jennings Bryan were under different names in Inherit the Wind allowed for some dramatic and historic license. Japan was undergoing a tremendous transformation at this point in time. The United States had with Commodore Matthew Perry's voyage in 1853 opened Japan and cracked her isolationist policy. Over 200 years before the Japanese government had instigated a policy of isolationism in regard to the countries of Europe. It seems as though they looked askance at the Christian missionaries and their activities. They put an almost total embargo on trade or contact of any kind with the west. The Dutch who had very specifically not sent any missionaries to Japan were allowed some extremely limited trading rights in the city of Shiminoseki during this period. So in a limited sense the Japanese kept up with western technological developments. Firearms in fact unlike in the film were in some use in Japan even at the time of Perry's voyage. The Samurai did make some use of them. Cruise is an American Civil War and Indian War hero who's making a living shilling for the Winchester Rifle company. He gets an offer to go to Japan to train a modern army for a whole lot of money and he accepts. In between Perry's voyage and the events of this film, a new Emperor came on the throne. The Emperor Meiji was anxious indeed that his country catch up with the rest of the world and not become a colony of some modern technologically advanced western country. He also did not want to lose sight of old traditions. Duelling advisers competed for his heart and mind in the film and in real life. Cruise's trained troops the first time they're in battle with the professional samurai turn and run. He's taken prisoner, but while in captivity grows to respect and admire Watanabe and what he represents. He also falls in love with a Japanese woman and I have to say his romance made a whole lot more sense than the one John Wayne had in The Barbarian and the Geisha. The final battle scene is impressive, the samurai's own Alamo to put it in American terms. In defeat Saigo Takamori though a rebel became a folk hero in Japan. The Last Samurai is a great story and Americans should see this story about a Japan they only know from World War II films, both good and bad. Tom Cruise should be given a lot of credit for using his star power to bring this story to American audiences. Is 'The Last Samurai' based on a book. In what year is the story set. Parents should especially be aware of the way that this movie portrays the traditional samurai notion of suicide as an honorable choice in the event of a defeat. The movie also includes some strong language, alcohol abuse, smoking, and sexual references. Continue reading When he is offered a job to train Japanese soldiers in modern fighting techniques, he does not care whose side he will be on. He is still haunted by a raid that killed civilian Indians. Algren goes to work training soldiers in modern tactics so that they can defeat a samurai rebellion led by Katsumoto (Ken Watanabe). Against his best judgment, the troops are sent in against the samurai too soon. They are defeated, and Algren is captured. Algren learns that the samurai believe that they, not the troops Algren has been training, are doing what the emperor needs. He's impressed and ultimately moved by them. The samurai have all the honor and self-respect that Algren left behind when he followed orders he despised. Algren is trained by the samurai in the ancient arts, which include not just fighting but living. The epic reach of the movie is grounded in committed and thoughtful performances, especially Watanabe and Koyuki as Taka, his sister. Cruise delivers his usual performance, sincere and loaded with movie star charisma. His mastery of the samurai fighting techniques is impressive. One side may be corrupt, but it is grappling with the inevitable in engaging with modernity. The other side may have honor and dignity, but in embracing its own extinction it seems to have forgotten how to do anything but fight, no matter what the consequences to its community. And the last 20 minutes or so are disappointingly formulaic, undercutting the power of everything that went before. Thank you for your support. A captain needs to be detached, removed emotionally because of the orders he might, almost certainly will, have to give. He ran a calculation to see how much time they had until they could begin the search. Wrong not to tell Becky about you the second I saw her, even if it did hurt her. The first is that poor Conway was most improperly biased towards boys. A boy such as Issacher, for example, and a really brilliant but somewhat eccentric lad, such as Micklethwaite, would have stood no chance with him.
