I like to read about the experiences of higher order multiples as a therapeutic sort of Schadenfreude. I only skimmed through all the pregnancy and newborn chapters. From reading this book I learned you can keep tiny tots busy for a little bit by putting a piece of Scotch tape on their fingers and letting them get it off. How awesome is that. Also I learned that I am ready to go back to work after spending 3 years at home with my daughters. There are no discussion topics on this book yet. Kathy 5.0 out of 5 stars I have found this book to be one of the most straightforward and reassuring books that I have read. Other books I read made me feel overwhelmed, as if I am not up to the task. This book has had a very calming effect on me, because of its practical and non-judemental advice. The quotes from parents of twins throughout the book are revealing and helpful as well. Because the authors are from the UK, some of the quotes will sound funny to Americans, such as the one from a woman who said that she drank plenty of Guinness to help her regain her strength after her babies were born.Immediately I discovered that many of the views were a bit outdated. It is very evident that it was written before twins and multiples were as common as they are now. You just do it again.I often had to put the book down in tears because it was so negative and made life with twins seem unbearable. Thinking maybe I was overly emotional while pregnant, I have since tried to read it again now that my twins are 10 months old. I found the book to be the same(no more tears though, because I know the reality). Twins are hard, but not as hard as this book makes them seem. Also, a lot of the material is terribly outdated - birth options; dr's office not able to accomodate twin appts or being annoyed when you bring a double stroller into the office - please. That has never happened to me once. You get lots of attention pushing around a double stroller with twins, but it is all positive. The book made me feel like I'd be treated as some kind of freak with my twins, and that my days would be horrible. This is especially true when it comes to activity toys such as rockers, bouncers or anything electric. When shopping for your newborn twins, it’s much better to buy different types of equipment so that you can rotate the babies between them. Some of my favorites include a double feeding pillow, a double stroller that fits your lifestyle (think tandem vs.There are many well-designed products to consider. Just remember, it’s the quality not the quantity that matters. Just think of the items the twins will typically be using at the same time consistently. Parenting techniques are constantly evolving so recent experiences and techniques can be really useful. The backbone to your twin learning experience can often come from older moms who have a wealth of amazing information at their fingertips and are eager to share. Surrounding yourself with a network of parents in the same situation will guarantee that you walk out with a sense of reassurance and a smile on your face. Multiple births, premature babies, twin development and even twin milestones, can vary greatly from singletons. Try and find experts who are suitably experienced so that you feel completely comfortable in their care. Think about who you can organize to help aside from your partner with tasks such as feeding. If you’re considering hiring a baby nurse or a doula, they can be extremely knowledgeable of the scheduling process and can help you manage the emotional instincts of instant response. Whichever you choose, ensure that they have extensive twin experience and can provide substantial references to confirm their expertise. In fact, a recent study has found that delivering twins vaginally is the safer option. How care could be improved and baby deaths in twin pregnancies prevented (Lay Summary) Promoting the implementation of the guideline will continue to be a key part of our work. The guideline can be found on the NICE website along with the supporting evidence and an equality impact assessment to support the guideline. The reality is that often parents' ability to cope is dramatically reduced by the problems that accompany having twins, triplets or more. As a result, the need for the correct care and support has never been greater and it is our aim to provide advice, information and support to multiple birth families and professionals working in the field. But the environment in which they develop is an important factor. Some say it's possible. Here's why they think so. In a nutshell, we're stuck with whatever talents nature gives us, but our environment can nurture -- or hinder -- those gifts. Larger hat size is loosely linked to IQ, although the largest human brain on record belonged to someone with severe intellectual disability. Faster reaction time, impulse transmission in nerves, and response of brain waves to unusual sounds are all linked to higher intelligence. Even before conception, the mother and probably the father should avoid drugs, alcohol, tobacco, and caffeine, says Stephen J. Warnings by authorities against eating local fish should be taken seriously by pregnant women, says Philippe Grandjean, MD, professor of environmental health at Boston University School of Public Health. The FDA says moms-to-be should avoid swordfish, king mackerel, tilefish, and other large ocean fish that tend to concentrate toxic chemicals. So pregnant women should stay away from sick children and avoid changing the litter box whenever possible. Babies born to women with low thyroid function are more likely to have low IQ. To determine whether thyroid replacement in similar women might help, his group at the University of Wales College of Medicine in Cardiff has started a seven-year clinical study. Sounds entering the fluid-filled womb are muffled and distorted. It's much like hearing the noise of a pool party when your head is under water. Conversely, offspring of rats lacking choline in their diet had fewer connections between nerve cells in the hippocampus and had trouble learning. Of course, it's always wise to get your doctor's blessing before changing your diet drastically. When he gave them a drug known to damage crucial areas of the hippocampus, they had less cell loss than did rats born to mothers fed a normal diet. Top Treatment Tips What Is Implantation Bleeding.
