Bushnell Northstar Manual <~ [Unlimited EPub]While this manual is intended to assist you in the set-up and basic use of this instrument, it does not cover everything you might like to know about astronomy. N o w, objects located first with the Red Dot Finderscope will be centered in the field of view of the main telescope. Never Look Directly At The Sun. Provided you did a reasonable job aligning the finderscope, a quick look through the main telescope tube at low power should reveal the same image. For best results and fewer vibrations set your telescope up on a level location on the ground rather than your concrete driveway or your wooden deck. This will provide a more stable foundation for viewing, especially if you’ve drawn a crowd with your new telescope. By pushing the “GO” button, the telescope will automatically find and follow the selected object until another object is selected and the “GO” button is pushed again. Northstar will automatically “zero out” the guide. SCROLL UP and DOWN to see what flashing menu choices you have. Choose PLANET. These are the most interesting. Even if you are a first time telescope user, PLANET objects can be very exciting. These names are abbreviated in this mode. Definitions for the abbreviations will be in the catalog index. For sake of space, the complete 20,000 object catalog is not listed. However, we have included the entire star list and the entire Messier object lists for your information. The Lifetime Limited Warranty is an expression of our confidence in the materials and mechanical workmanship of our products and is your assurance of a lifetime of dependable service. Rene M Richard 4.http://dkc1burgas.com/images/canon-rebel-xt-350d-manual-portugues.pdf0 out of 5 stars Came with four lenses, a 2x barlow and 7 assorted filters with recommendations on which planets to use each for, including a moon filter. Also ordered a standard old fashioned Collimator. Got both in the male after work on Fri. Collimated and lined up the site scope while the sun was still up. Was able to catch jaw dropping views of the moon right after night fall. This is not a bad scope at all. I am planning on getting a bigger one soon, but this is awesome and a lot of fun learning on. Plus the digital control really makes it easy, I found, to control views of the moon with out touching it by had. I look forward to learning the auto control features of this thing.the sky tour, point and identify. I read the reviews on here before I bought it. I was not expecting this quality and sharpness of views. I look forward to having many enjoyable expeditions with this scope. I think it's great. Please try again later. Please try again later. A. Murray 1.0 out of 5 stars From the lack of tracking, poor go-to (because it doesn't keep the time after you've set it), to the way over exaggerated magnification claims, shaky mount-- all true. I've had one of these scopes for about 4-5 years (got it as a gift). I used it once or twice but couldn't do anything but look at the moon with it. It went in the attic (where most cheap scopes end up) after a short time. Then I gave it to my sister (she kept it when I moved-- I was going to throw it away). She gave it back after about a year because she couldn't get it to focus. Only useful for the moon she says (couldn't get the computer to work at all-- her fault there-- read on). Since that time, however, I learned a lot about telescopes in general. So when I got it back, I figured out why it wouldn't focus with the included 4mm eyepiece or the supplied 3x barlow. It was WAY out of collimation. Collimation wasn't even mentioned in the manual at all. They assume it is always in collimation. If a scope gets out of collimation it is useless so it is strange not to put it in the manual at all. So I take out the primary mirror and mark the center spot with a red sharpie (you need to mark the center of the primary mirror for collimation-- this one doesn't come pre-marked). I put it back in and use a cheshire eyepiece (used for collimation) to line up the optics. Now I knew why there were no instructions on collimating. This thing is almost impossible to collimate. The secondary mirror basically falls out when you loosen any ONE of the set screws. Anyway after about an hour and fifteen minutes I got it in very good collimation. However, even in good collimation, the 4mm eyepiece will not come into a sharp focus and NOTHING in the 3x barlow will come to focus AT ALL. This is definitely due to very, very poor quality of the supplied eyepieces. I've tried other eyepieces which make this scope perform much better so I know it is the eyepieces. The 3x barlow is 100 useless and it is also 100 plastic (I think it even has a plastic lens). But the useful magnification for any scope maxes out around 60x the aperture (in inches). In this scope's case that is 180x. The computer works like it is supposed to (except it doesn't keep the time once you enter it which makes it pretty useless). The novice probably can't do this properly. Note, too, that the second star must be found fairly quickly after the first or the settings won't be very accurate (hard, again, for the novice). The most useful part of the computer is using the direction arrows to manually keep an object in view since they slew the scope at a fairly slow rate. So, the user should know a bit about the night sky before attempting to ever use ANY go-to system. First of all, the best way to do that is to buy NightWatch: A Practical Guide to Viewing the Universe (Spiralbound) by Terence Dickinson. That'll get you oriented in the night sky and give a good starting point. Second, pick up a good starter scope.frickcontrols.com/uploads/files/Droid-Razr-Instruction-Manual.pdf A good starter Newtonian (same style as this scope) with an object locator (doesn't automatically move the telescope, though) is an Orion SkyQuest XT6. It has twice the aperture of this scope. If you get the XT6 without the intelliscope option it is even cheaper. General rule is buy the bigest aperture scope that your budget allows. Personally, I don't think you need a go-to at first. It is much more fun to be able to read start charts and star hop your way to find those deep sky objects. They instead have great optics, a relatively wide field of view, and a good ratio of light gathering per dollar. The Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope (SCT) design has become the most popular in amateur astronomy because it is a master of compromise. SCTs are not unwieldy like a refractor, nor do they require the cleaning regimen of a Newtonian reflector. They instead have great optics, a relatively wide field of view, and a good ratio of light gathering per dollar. After a simple alignment procedure, the user merely tells the scope where to go among its 20,000-object database. Everything needed to begin enjoyable viewing immediately is included in the package. Let us know YOUR RECENTLY VIEWED ITEMS Browsing History ON Clear History Not responsible for typographical or illustrative errors. The Northstar range includes computerized telescopes with real voice output and have databases of 20,000 celestial objects built in. The Harbormaster range are nautical-styled brass and cherry wood refractor telescopes; and the Voyager Sky Tour models come in between, with LED red-dot finderscopes coupled with an audio tour talking handset. Aim the main telescope tube at a land-based target. Choose something about 200 yards away. Extend the focusing tube fully. You do this by turning the focusing mechanism. The focusing mechanism is a rack and pinion mechanism on the left of the main tube at the opposite end to the Bushnell logo. Slowly retract the focusing tube with the focusing mechanism until the object comes into focus. Align the finderscope. A finderscope allows you to roughly locate your object. You then zoom in by looking through the main scope. You will find finderscopes on the both the Northstar range and the Voyager Sky Tour range. Turn the red-dot finderscope on. Look through the main tube and turn the adjustment wheels until the red dot is exactly centered on the same object that’s in the main telescope view. Decide on your your target object. The moon is a good beginning target object. Center the object in the finderscope’s crosshairs. Look through the main telescope tube at low power and you should see the same object, in this case the moon. Focus on the object with the lowest power eyepiece. It’s the eyepiece labeled with the highest number. Add the higher power eyepieces and look at some detail. Insert eyepieces in the focusing mechanism by backing out the eyepiece set screw and inserting an eyepiece fully. Tighten the set screw. Try to find Saturn, Mars, Jupiter and Venus. Again start with the lower power eyepiece and work up to the higher power eyepiece to see detail. Warnings Never look at the sun, through the telescope or with your naked eyes. Serious damage can occur. References Bushnell Northstar Manual About the Author Patrick Nelson has been a professional writer since 1992. Nelson studied design at Hornsey Art School. Lastmanuals provides you a fast and easy access to the user manual BUSHNELL NORTHSTAR CSL 78-7860. We hope that this BUSHNELL NORTHSTAR CSL 78-7860 user guide will be useful to you. Instruction ManualYour Bushnell telescope can bring the wonders of the universe to your eye. While this manual is intended to assist you in the set-up and basic use of this instrument, it does not cover everything you might like to know about astronomy. Although Northstar will give a respectable tour of the night sky, it is recommended you get a very simple star chart and a flashlight with a red bulb or red cellophane over the end. This will provide a more stable foundation for viewing, especially if you've drawn a crowd with your new telescope. You'd be surprised how much more you'll see from your local lake or park when compared to a backyard in the city. Waiting until the object rises well above the horizon will provide a brighter and crisper image. Objects on the horizon are viewed through several layers of earth's atmosphere. It's because you are looking through a considerable more amount of atmosphere than you would directly overhead. (Note: If objects high in the sky are distorted or wavy, you are probably viewing on a very humid night. ) During nights of unstable atmosphere, viewing through a telescope can be frustrating if not impossible. If the date has been input into the system, the Sky Tour Mode will automatically default to that month. Objects can be chosen by using the scroll up or down arrows and pressing ENTER. To find out more information about any given object press the enter button while that object is displayed to see the scrolling text message. Telescope: The Telescope Mode of Northstar provides real-time data on where the telescope is pointing. Astronomical Coordinates for Right Ascension (RA) and Declination (DEC) as well as Altitude (ALT) and Azimuth (AZ) are displayed simultaneously. In addition, in the lower right hand corner will be the abbreviation for the current constellation that the telescope is pointed at. Identify: The Identify Mode of Northstar provides the ability to Identify any object within your telescope field of view. Subcategories for different classes of identifiable objects are included as well as an Identify Any option. Align Earth: The Align Earth Mode of Northstar provides the ability to easily align your telescope utilizing common information non-astronomers would readily know.Align Star: The Align Star Mode of Northstar provides the ability to align your telescope utilizing some astronomical knowledge. By knowing where two stars are located in the sky, a novice user can circumvent the city, date, and time input and quickly start utilizing the Northstar database to locate amazing astronomical objects. SCROLL UP or SCROLLDOWN until the display reads. PRESS ENTER This mode will default to the level. By selecting this option with the ENTER key, it will IDENTIFYthe object that you are currently viewing OR the closest object to where your telescope is currently pointed. To select the final mode press ENTER at the display. The display reads something like. The TELESCOPE mode gives you dynamic real-time information on your telescope's current position in terms of astronomical coordinates. Then it is this telescope: Can Buffalo Bore ammo be safely fired? Answer questions, earn points and help others. My way around this, and it is really grasping at straws, is to enter the name of your target as it’s minute, seconds co-ordinates, that way when I get closer I simply try to match the co-ordinates on the name of my target to the co-ordinates on the GPS unit. But that’s just desperate. Also, I had made mention to screen display hickups, but I really should have mentioned that they were only happening at freeway speeds so the GPS was unable to update the screen at zoom rations above 1 mile, But as far as hiking goes, it was flawless. Also, I had upgraded the software as mentioned on the Bushnell site and found that my unit started locking up to the point where I had to remove the batteries in order to get it to work again. I had also installed a Satellite image into the photo folder on the GPS unit at the same time, so I am not 100 sure which event caused the lockups, but other than that, I’ve not had any other lockups. I had returned my previous unit for another one when it locked up because of this and it is nice to know that all maps that I downloaded are easily swapped into any other unit that I got so my maps were still all mine. I also did download some satellite images which I placed into the topo menu on my GPS just out of curiosity, and yes they do work from that folder just fine. On another note, the maps appear to be just Jpeg images with Bushnells modified header attached to it in order to allow the maps to locate themselves in their correct GPS locations, plus it locks up the software so that Bushnell are the only ones selling them. The unit actually does take quite a while to find the satellites, which sometimes took 5 minutes, weather on a clear day or not. The accuracy is great and I am able to see accuracies to the level of knowing which side of the road I was driving on when looking on the topo maps. This GPS was also able to hold satellite lock in some really tough spots that my previous units could not do. Other than that, the unit is fine for a variety of GPS applications once you except it’s faults, but I would never use this unit as a piece of survival gear, did I mention that it does have a nice colour display? The reviews for the onix200cr are all very true. I picked up one of these from a discount electronics store and could not believe my luck, until I tried to use the interface and download maps from Bushnell. Very bad software. No customer support, in fact very ignorant and lots of attitude. I have been left to figure this out on my own. THANK YOU RON! For your hard work and most of all sharing your results. If it were not for you I would have chucked this thing out long ago. I finally managed to download maps, but have to import them into my GPS threw a silly and painful way.I do love the buttons and display though. Stay clear of this unit. DO NOT BUY!!! The battery pack is a joke, it only lasts about 6 hours if you are not using Safe Track. I used this unit for a dirt bike adventure in Colorado and halfway through each day the unit’s battery died. When I got home and tried to download my route I was unable to. This GPS is junk. My biggest complaint is WHY DOES ONE HAVE TO BUY EXTRA SOFTARE TO DOWNLOAD MAPS OF THEIR AREA OF INTEREST.All I get from the techs are “I am very sorry mam” and the tech told me this unit was put out 5 years ago.If Bushnell doesn’t want to deal with them other than I am sorry Mam, then why didn’t they recall the pieces of junk.I won it at a MC rally and thought it might prove to be useful. NOT! Software sucks, instructions suck and Busnell supposed support sucks BIG TIME. Tried for 3 hours to “download maps’ Gave up. Will just throw in garbage can cause I won’t want this POS to fall into anyones hands. I use and have used Garmin units for years. Now I know why. This should be thrown away or returned immediately. POS! The whole time I’m just staring at the SAT screen watching the white polygon spinning around in circles.
