Wipe the contacts with a paper towel and the watch should charge. After borrowing several of these types of yardage-advisors from family and friends (I've tried Skycaddie, Bushnell Pro V2, and Bushnell 1600), I liked the rangefinder better than the GPS. That, to me, was the easy part. I wanted the PinSeeker technology but didn't want to pay for the top-of-the-line model. I should have bought one of these several years ago. Of course the PinSeeker technology is relatively new, so maybe I'm glad I waited. Anyway, my father is 60 years old and he uses the higher-end Bushnell, the 1600. I have played 3 rounds with his 1600, and several rounds with my Medalist, as well as a couple with someone else's V2 in a tournament. Advantage to the Medalist. Battery life supposedly is about the same. Remember to carry a backup battery. Orientation - you hold the Medalist oriented horizontally, the Pro V2 vertically. I will admit that the V2 seems more natural, but this meant very little to me. Magnification - the Pro V2 is a little stronger, but after using the Medalist for 6-7 rounds, it has yet to let me down. My dad and I often shoot each other's distances to verify the number and sometimes it takes me a tad longer to lock on than him with his 1600. But again, that meant very little to me. All in all, if you're looking for the cheapest option with solid pinseeker technology, this is it, and it's worked well for me. The Medalist body is cheap plastic. The battery connector gets jammed into the body of the rangefinder in a way that could cause failure. The wire is bent at a hard 90 degree angle and I was concerned that it could lead to breakage over time. Also, watch who you buy this from. My supplier, who I shipped it back to, promoted a new rangefinder but shipped me a refurbished unit. Please try again later. W. Goodrich 4.0 out of 5 stars I also am a penny-pincher and that is why this product interested me. Larry Barton 4.0 out of 5 stars After returning it I zeroed in on this model which cost quite a bit more money but was designed for golfing. And it operates as advertised. Just line up the little circle on the flag and watch for the verifying cirlce in the viewfinder and read the distance. You can also zoom in and get the distance on any sand traps that are in front of the green to see if you want to lay up or hit over. The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars is because it requires a steady hand in order to correctly sight on a flag, but this is a common trait with any hand-held rangefinder. Please try again later. Please try again later. CraigC 4.0 out of 5 stars On the first outing I was having the same difficulty with stability that others have reported. I found it a bit inconvienient to have to rely on bracing against the cart, especially since there were cart-path-only restrictions in place. Being an advanced amature photographer, I've often used a mono-pod to support my cameras. I gave it a try with my Medalist and it proved to be the ideal solution. The pod with Medalist attached, slips easily into a club slot in my bag, but I need to be careful about slinging the bag around, or letting it drop. I attached the case, using a lanyard, to the mono-pod, and slip the case off and on the Medalist, just as I would a club cover. This offers some protection, but the case is not extremely padded, so I still need to take care. When needed, I pull the unit out like a club, flip the lever to extend the leg, and take my reading with perfect stability. Throw it back and the bag and grab the correct club. Works very well for me. I love that I can read distances to pins and bunkers on any course without ever having to purchase gps downloads. Plus I can read distances to fronts and backs of bunkers, trees, rocks or what have you. And it works whether I have a tree cover or cloud cover as well. All I need is a line of sight. The Pinseeker function seems to work nicely also.chloroacetic-acid.com/upload/files/20221025_054019.pdf I am still taking a couple of readings at the pin, just to build confidence that I am actually reading the pin and not something else. I believe I have only changed the battery at the start of each season. I also lost the dang cover during the 1st year of ownership. I now tape the battery in place instead of replacing the cover. It looks funky but hey, so do the people I play golf with haha. Besides, from all of the reviews stating loss of battery covers, I figure the odds are that I will find another one somewhere, sometime. If I had another cover, I'd tape it down anyway. Please try again later. Please try again later. LEG DMD 5.0 out of 5 stars It's easy to use. Even if your shaking, you'll still get an accurate reading, so someone who is elderly shouldn't have the complaints that I've seen over the years on some models of rangefinders. The advantage this has over the GPS is it gives the exact measurement to the pin, not to the front, middle and rear of the green. Ideally, having both sets of information would be great, but given the choice, the pin measurement is more beneficial. It also works in close whereas the GPS turns off near the greens and you can't drive your cart on all fairways, especially near the greens, so you can get more consistent with your short game. Some of the newer models have more information regarding altitude variations, which would be nice. Please try again later. Please try again later. Grandpa 5.0 out of 5 stars Some had the GPS devices that gave you a picture of the course and I considered those. In the end, I wanted a device that would tell me the distance to the hazards both front and back as well as the distance to the pin. The only thing I would say that I had a problem with was that you must be careful, if the green has trees or other large objects behind it, to put the pointer on the flag - if not, it will give you the distance to the background. I have played three rounds with this rangefinder and fine it easy to use and accurate. I only wish I had gotten it years ago. Please try again later. Please try again later. JD 3.0 out of 5 stars The battery connector gets jammed into the body of the rangefinder in a way that could cause failure. Rotter 4.0 out of 5 stars I played everyday on unfamiliar courses and found it very easy and quick to use. It adds almost no time to your playing; the pin seeking feature holds the distance to the flag easily. One tip, you need to establish a place on your golf bag where you always store your rangefinder and duplicate your routine before every shot. I'm concerned abour losing it, and I think putting it on your golf cart or storing it someplace different whenever you play could distract you when you are finished. Of course, there is a bit of a learning curve, on the 9th hole at Indian Wells I shot the distance at 118 yards to my parter. While he was swinging, I reshot it and got 99 yards. Naturally he pured it and hit it onto the cart path and onto the practice green. He was not happy. Now I always shoot it a couple of times and think if it seems right. Overall, It is a terrific tool and has really helped my certainty of club selection. Please try again later. Having the exact known distance and then being able to use it in a controlled environment was very helpful for learning the tool's basics. My line of sight was clear between myself and the 4ft tall target, leaving no issues with mistargeting. I bought it mainly for hunting which I haven't had a chance to use it in the wild. In a controlled area it works fine and it didn't cost an arm and a leg. Shipping was on time with no issues as I have come to expect with Amazon and it's vendors. Please try again later. The short answer is yes it does, but better than that. With this model you can shoot other distances just as easily. For example say you shoot the pin distance at 155 years, and the pin is tucked behind a sand trap. If you can see the back face of the sand trap you can shoot that distance to know how far you have to hit the ball to make it over the bunker too. You point the circle of the laser at that back face and it reads out the distance, say maybe 145 years. So you know you can to carry the ball over 145 yards to miss the sand trap too. Another good use is when teeing off and you need the distance to trees or bunker in the fairway, with this you can shoot those and see where to aim the ball or what club to use. How many times before I had to guess those distances but not anymore. I use this and store it in my golf bag with the zipper open so I can get to it easily when needed. Overall I am very pleased with this product and would recommend it for the price conscience person that wants the top technology but an entry level product. It has worked great for me so far! Please try again later. Please try again later. Paul 5.0 out of 5 stars I opened an Amazon account and started to check out their rangefinder trying to find an inexpensive but good rangefinder and saw the Medalist Laser Rangefinder and read the reviews. I have used the Medalist for 18 rounds and just changed the battery with no problems with the battery holder clip. I am glad I purchased the Medalist because it can scan and read the yardage with no problems. Once you hit the flag it gives you the yardage easily even at over 200 yards. Please try again later. Suffice it to say, a collimating bore sight is a lens, aligned perfectly perpendicular to the bore, that sits in front of your firearm’s sighting system and tricks it into thinking it’s looking at a target that is 100 yards, or more, away. Printed on the lens is a tiny reticle grid that’s presented to the optic in relation to the size of the optic it’s viewed by. Again, this is a gross simplification. As long as the device is perpendicular to the bore, it doesn’t really matter if the lens is perfectly centered in front of your sights or scope. But it should be plumb to take advantage of the device’s holographic-like target grid when using it to calculate ballistic drop or record a zero for later confirmation. Yes, these devices are, mostly, accurate enough to help visualize bullet drop when used with a magnified optic. The advantages of a collimator include not needing batteries, and the ability for the device to include an onboard targeting grid. On the other hand, lasers are simple, cheap, and, in many ways, just as accurate. The cost of a laser is usually related to the amount of effort needed at the manufacturing level to align the laser to the plane of the bore or magnet that it’s mounted on. The laser’s ability to retain that setting over time also adds to its expense. Hold Whether we’re looking at collimating sights or lasers to provide an aiming point for our optic, we need some way of holding the device in line with the bore of the gun. Bore arbors are pretty cheap and accurate. They’re inserted in the last 3 inches of the bore and held in place with an internal, expanding collar. On the downside, these collars are usually soft metal or polymer, but people get weird when you talk about sticking things down the bore of their rifle. Being long, thin rods, they’re easily susceptible to alignment issues and damage from inadvertent bumps while in the bore. Plus, you’re going to have to keep a little baggy of caliber adapters and screws handy whenever you use it. Magnet-mounted devices adhere to the muzzle without anything going into the bore. Their operation and accuracy is dependent on the idea that barrel crowns are machined perfectly perpendicular to the bore, and most are. In-chamber lasers are very small, very cheap, and sometimes accurate. Chambers aren’t always cut perfectly inline with the bore, and, even then, the devices have to be slightly undersized to fit in a wide range of chambers, introducing slop. If you go this route, you’re going to need to shell out to buy a laser for each caliber. Still, the things are usually accurate enough to get within a foot of a bullseye. Just don’t expect them to last long. One thing to consider with all of these systems is that none of them are perfect, and all of them will get you on paper. It’s up to you to decide if you want to drop the cash on a device that’ll speed the zeroing process up. For agencies, this is a no brainer. Time is money, and one of these systems can save a unit or department serious cash when maintaining a fleet of guns and shooters. For the individual, though, the decision to buy one comes down to if you want to spend money on a device that’ll speed up (not eliminate) the zeroing process. Rule of Thumb One thing to consider if you’re deciding between laser and collimating systems: A laser can touch a real target, while a collimator can only project a holographic grid in front of your reticle. You can use the laser to indicate points on a target that can be measured with a ruler. This means you can accurately apply calculations from a ballistic solver to your theoretical zero. Alternatively, use this rule of thumb with a laser to get a zero that accounts for bullet drop seen in common.22 centerfire and some.
