This was because many were produced to meet the demands of the military. When the United States entered World War I, there was a need for more service weapons to be issued to the troops.Buckshot ammunition was issued with the trench grade during the war. Each round of this ammunition contained nine 00 (.33-caliber) buckshot pellets. This characteristic allowed troops to fire the whole magazine with great speed. The Lyons Press. ISBN 978-1-58574-307-0. Unsourced material may be challenged and removed. Most pump-action firearms use an integral tubular magazine, although some do use detachable box magazines. Pump-action is typically associated with shotguns. Also because the action is cycled in a linear fashion, it creates less torque that can tilt and throw the gun off aim when repeat-firing rapidly.Semi-automatic shotguns must use some of the energy of each round fired to cycle their actions, meaning that they must be loaded with shells powerful enough to reliably cycle. The pump-action avoids this limitation. In addition, like all manual action guns, pump-action guns are inherently more reliable than semi-automatic guns under adverse conditions, such as exposure to dirt, sand, or climatic extremes. This makes for slow reloading, as the cartridges have to be inserted individually into the firearm. However, some pump action shotguns and rifles, such as the Russian Zlatoust RB-12, Italian Valtro PM5, the American Remington 7600 series, and the Mossberg 590M, use detachable box magazines. The rounds are fed in one by one through a port in the receiver, where they are pushed forward. A latch at the rear of the magazine holds the rounds in place in the magazine until they are needed. If it is desired to load the gun fully, a round may be loaded through the ejection port directly into the chamber, or cycled from the magazine, which is then topped off with another round. Pump shotguns with detachable box magazines or even drums exist, and may or may not allow the magazine to be inserted without stripping the top round. The forend is connected to the bolt by one or two bars; two bars are considered more reliable because it provides symmetric forces on the bolt and pump and reduces the chances of binding. The motion of the bolt back and forth in a tubular magazine model will also operate the elevator, which lifts the shells from the level of the magazine to the level of the barrel. The shooter pulls back on the forend to begin the operating cycle. The bolt unlocks and begins to move to the rear, which extracts and ejects the empty shell from the chamber, cocks the hammer, and begins to load the new shell. In a tubular magazine design, as the bolt moves rearwards, a single shell is released from the magazine, and is pushed backwards to come to rest on the elevator. As the bolt moves forward, the round slides into the chamber, and the final portion of the forend's travel locks the bolt into position. A pull of the trigger will fire the next round, where the cycle begins again. The risk of running out of ammunition unexpectedly can be minimized in a tubular magazine firearm by topping off the magazine by loading new rounds to replace the rounds that have just been fired. This is especially important when hunting, as many locations have legal limits on the magazine capacity: for example, three rounds for shotguns and five rounds for rifles.See the airgun article for information on how spring piston and pneumatic airguns work.It carries three rounds in an above-the-barrel tubular magazine.London, United Kingdom: The Great Seal Patent Office. p. 169. Included on every Armorer's Course DVD is a schematic diagram that can be printed out as needed. AGI Armorer Courses are equal to, or greater than a Factory hands-on Class, and cover in great depth the detailed Design and Function aspects of a specific type of firearm “model, group or family”, using cutaway firearms in most cases to clearly demonstrate these concepts. The complete understanding of how the firearm functions internally is provided, which is required to effectively maintain, repair or customize the gun. Each AGI Armorer Courses also covers in extreme detail, disassembly and reassembly down to the last part you should remove and tells you what you should not remove. AGI Armorer courses also cover a safe and effective way to clean and oil the firearm. There is nothing like these courses on YouTube or any other website. Reynolds 3.0 out of 5 stars He would stick his finger inside the receiver to move one thing to remove another, and he wouldn't say exactly what he was moving or doing. He showed what some pins and screws looked like upon removal, but not always. If he's done that with 2 or 3 or so items, and you get them mixed up during cleaning, you could spend sometime figuring which is which, instead of just going back on the video. He explains what he uses for cleaning and lubrication, and shows with just a few select parts. It would be nice to know if some parts - and which ones, would be better served with grease. And maybe lubrication points not to miss. As far as gunsmithing goes, he only shows it done on one part. During reassembly, he mentions if the trigger needs timing, but since his sample gun didn't need it, he didn't show how to do it. We're talking about guns last made in 1957; how many still have owner's manuals with them with ANY of this information. It's not like AGI has to worry about printing costs; it's a DVD. I bought it because I acquired my Model 97 in parts and was hoping this would help me get it back together; it should. But if it needs any more than filing of the sear, I'll have to search for more comprehensive info than an ARMORER'S COURSE on the gun.Could be improved with more advanced procedures like tightening takedown versions that have run out of adjustment. He understands the design, function, and repair of firearms in general, and certainly the gun that was John Brownings first pump shotgun, and a runaway favorite of the Cowboy Action crowd, the 97 Winchester. Was having some ejection issues when I first got it but about about a hundred rounds through it, it cycles good even in slam fire. For a 20” smooth bore barrel it’s surprisingly capable for skeets. One thing I should mention though is that it is a very light gun. I don’t know if it’s shitty Chinese metal or the wood is just super light (it’s not walnut like they claim) but is does kick like a son of a bitch and the butt pad is hard plastic but that isn’t a huge surprise being Chinese. Lots of little screws and pins that can really screw with the guns operation when they sneakily back out on you. I converted mine to a trench-gun. I posted here a few months ago about what I did. They sell them under the Cimarron brand through Marstar but it shows up as a Norinco on Marstars site. Then only one person's money is going to China. Edit: these are low quality reproductions apparently based on worn out solid frame models. After a good cleaning of old grease, the action is very smooth, you can take the barrel off very easily, and it slam fires. Can recommend disassembling and reassembling with a bit of loctite.
