Installing a Processor CAUTION Before installing or removing a processor, make sure the AC power has been removed by unplugging the power cord from the computer;. Either end of the cable can be connected to the SATA drive or the connector on the board. Chassis Intrusion The board su pports a chass is secur ity fea ture t hat detec ts if the chassis cov er has b een rem oved. The secur ity fe ature u ses a mechanica l switch on t he chass is tha t can be c onnecte d to the c hassis intrusion c onnector on the desk top board. S ee Fig ure 22 on pag e 43 for the locat ion of the chas sis intrusion c onnector. Power connec tors ? Fan connectors ? Suspend to RAM (I nstant ly Av ailable PC techno logy ). The use of ACPI with th e desk top board r equire s an ope rating sy stem that provides full ACPI support. Power Connectors The desktop board ha s three power connecto rs. See Fig ure 21 on page 42 fo r th e location o f the power connecto rs. See Figure 20 on page 41 for the loc ation o f the fan he aders. Instantly Av ailable PC technolog y enables th e board to ente r the AC PI S3 (Suspen d- to-RAM) sl eep state. Whi le in the S3 sleep state, the com puter w ill appear to be of f. When sig naled by a wak e-up device o r event, the system quick ly ret urns to its l ast know n awak e state. The desktop board’s st andby power indicator, shown i n Figure 3, is li t when the re is stan dby power to the sy stem. This includ es the m em ory modules and PCI bus connecto rs, ev en when the computer ap pears to be off. If the sy stem has a dual- colored power LED on the fr on t panel, the sleep state is i ndicated by the LED turning amber. Real-Time Clock The desktop board ha s a tim e- of-day clock and 100- year c alenda r. The ba ttery on the desk top board keep s the c lock curre nt when the com puter is turned of f. Fa ilure to disconnect pow er, tel ecom municatio ns links, ne tworks, or modems before you ope n the comput er or perform any proc edures c an resu lt in p ersonal in jury or equipment damag e. So me circuitr y on the board can conti nue to op erate even though th e front p anel p ower button is o ff. Perform the proce dures d escribed in this chapte r only at an ESD work station u sing an antist atic wrist strap and a condu ctive fo am pad. If such a station is not availab le, you can pr ovide some ESD protec tion by wearing an antistatic w ris t strap and attaching it t o a metal part o f the com puter cha ssis. To avoi d overlo ading the power su pply, make sure that the calc ulated to ta l current loads o f all the m odul es wi thin the com pute r is less than the o utput current ra ting of each of the power suppl ies ou tput ci rcuits. Observe Safety a nd Re gulatory Requirem ents Read and adhere to the inst ructions in this sectio n and the instru ctions supp lied w ith the ch assis and associated m odules. I f you do not follow these in struc tions and the ins tructions prov ided by chass is and module sup pliers, y ou incre ase saf ety ri sk and th e possibi lity of noncom pliance wi th reg ional laws and reg ulations. Refer to Ap pend ix A for s afety and reg ulatory requi rem ents. P lace the shie ld insid e the chassis as s hown in Figure 4. Pre ss the s hield into pl ace so that it fits tig htly and securely. I f the shield do esn’t fi t, obta in a p roperly - sized shield from the chassi s suppl ier.Disconne ct the computer from its power source be fore per forming th e procedu res descri bed here. Fa ilure to discon nect the power before you open the compu ter can result in persona l injury or equipmen t damage. Insert the bottom edg e of the DI MM into the sock et. 9. When the DI MM is inser ted, push do wn on the top edg e of the DI MM un til th e retai ning cl ips snap into place. To restore no rmal operatio n, place the jumper on pins 1- 2 as shown below. 1 3 13. Replace the cov er, plug in t he computer, and turn on th e computer.
