Velcro loops and plastic hooks on the Carrier can be used to secure the strap set or to attach the Carrier directly to the combat webbing. The correct size should be established using the C4 mask sizing tool. The Mask is available in four sizes: extra small, small, medium and large. When first issued, and peri odically thereafter to confim the fit, the donned mask shall be tested for air-tightness using the protective mask leak detecting kit, or by going through the gas hut. MASK FITTING AND TESTING 2. When the mask is properly donned and the headharness correctly adjusted, the wearer's eyes should be located in the upper one-third of the eye pieces. The Mask should collapse onto the face and remain collapsed. If the Mask returns to its normal shape, a leak is present. Remove and redon the mask. Ensure it is positioned and adjusted properly and there is no hair un der the face-seal. Retest. If the Mask still leaks, replace it with a new one. b. The concept was that if you were in some toxic environment you would be able to use the drinking straw In conjunction with the mechanism at the front of the mask and have a drink. For the life of me I’ve never figured out how this was ever a necessity. So basically you’ll need to replace this straw if you wish to exercise this obscure feature. You could use any type of aquarium or automotive rubber hose to replace this. The soft plastic face shield is also still fairly nice and you can see through it just fine. It is a little dirty, but there is a special called Naphtha that will clean this right up. It sells at places like home depot. It well get rid of the grease and grime. I don't have any of that cleaner or lighter fluid right now to do it myself.
