JasonP 5.0 out of 5 stars Six months in, it's been fantastic. USING A STEEL FUNNEL If you want to go plastic free, you're going to have to use a steel funnel. There is a steel funnel made for this exact machine. If you go that route you'll also need to get the tip kit, which is usually sold separately. Per the parts catalog for this model you need: 20216.0000 FUNNEL 01031.0000 TIP KIT Without the tip kit the coffee goes through the funnel too fast. The tip kit restores the proper flow. The only reason I can assume the tip kit is not included is that different model coffee makers must flow differently. I've included a few screen grabs of the catalog so you can see for yourself. Also, the steel funnel is way easy to clean, since the grate the coffee sits on is removable. GRIND If you buy pre ground coffee, this pot will make acceptable pots of coffee. What it really likes is a MEDIUM-FINE grind. The finer the grind, the quicker the coffee extracts. In the case of this coffee pot, it takes 2:45 seconds for all the water to run from the tank to the funnel. This means that medium or course grinds are not going to extract all the way, which can leave the coffee with a slightly sour or low flavor taste. VERDICT This is the best drip coffee maker I’ve ever used in terms of both taste and speed. Newbies be warned, you have about 1 second from when you finish pouring to when it starts coming out the funnel. Also, it takes up a ton of counter space. All replacement parts are readily available from Bunn if something goes wrong:-)If the pot sits on the burner for a long time, the coffee will scorch. Solved that problem by putting a folded piece of foil under the pot. Don't fold too many times, and leave the pot directly on the burner for a while before inserting the foil, otherwise the coffee might not achieve piping-hot status. Invest in the stainless filter basket for the best results.Yes, it delivers piping hot, delicious coffee - and keeps it piping hot - in just a few minutes. It's taken a bit of reconditioning - I can't start the brew cycle without the pot in place (don't try it unless you want to clean up a big mess) like I could with my old drip coffee maker. For best results, we recommend using at least a 20 white vinegar concentrate or stronger. Remove the brew funnel and reinstall the spray head by twisting it into place in a counterclockwise direction. Once done, replace the brew funnel and plug the machine back in so that the water in the hot water tank can heat back up. Add some distilled water to the machine and put your carafe back on the warmer plate. That’s it. Simple, right? Experts recommend that the brew funnel and carafe should be cleaned after each use. It's a great coffee maker. Our main priority was not wanting to wait a long time for our first morning cup of coffee. This coffee maker delivers in under 3 minutes. It makes really good coffee. My husband is a coffee snob in the sense that he can immediately taste if coffee has been sitting for more than 30 minutes. The insulated thermos keeps the coffee hot for a very long time without turning it bitter. We love strong coffee so we use a lot of grounds per pot. Some people have complained that the grounds end up in their coffee cups. We do find times when the grounds are pushed to the sides of the grounds basket and up over the filter, but we have never had an issue with the grounds being in our cups. Some people have mentioned dripping or leaking, but we have never had this issue. It looks sleek on the countertop. Can't complain for a reasonably priced home appliance that we use daily. Needed filters, so I ordered Commercial ones since this was a commercial style brewer. Never seeing one in person I had no idea that this was not really a commercial brewer. Had to return the filters due to wrong size. Fortunately, there was a small pack of filters included with the pot. Otherwise my husband is extremely pleased in the speed that he gets hot coffee. Initial start-up was easy, but the unit didn't hold the 2 carafes full as the literature stated. The thermal carafe is something that he really likes. No stale coffee being reheated on a warmer. Using coffee beans that we grind ourself has been a learning curve for him; wanting to avoid coffee being too weak, he has been trying out various amounts and varying the consistency of his grinds.
