Aileen 5.0 out of 5 stars However, when it comes to coffee and what machine I decided to buy. Well that is totally different!!! I did a lot of research on coffee machines before I made this purchase. For years I have owned a Keurig Brewer. And never had a problem with it. And the Keurig Company always stuck by their warranty. My problem with Keurig is the fact that during the time my brewers has been working great as they up dated their coffee machines this company became a little bit bolder than it should be. Designing brewers that only take Their labeled coffee!!! Well Sorry Keurig I like to make my own mind up about what coffee and who's coffee I will buy and drink!!! SO I looked into replacing my Keurig and was overwhelmed with the number of K cup brewers there were on the market. But I weeded through all the consumer reviews. Watched the reviews on you tube and finally decided to try this brewer. The main reason was because I had owned a BUNN brewer years ago right before it was replaced with the Keurig. And that Brewer was over 15 years old and still working when I got my Keurig. So I know BUNN was a good company. And They still are. This Brewer is all it is said to be. It makes really FANTASTIC coffee!!! So I highly recommend this brewer. It covers all the coffee needs that one might have for a one serve cup of coffee!!! Follow the directions that come with this machine and every morning you will have a wonderful cup of coffee, weather it is a K-cup or a coffee pod or ground coffee. This is the best one cup coffee machine on the market, in my opinion!!!I once owned a large Bunn-o-Matic but as the only coffee drinker in the house, it worked best when hosting company or making a thermos-full to take to work. Had this model been available, I would have bought it years ago, but instead bought several different single cup brewers over the years. None made the coffee really hot. When my last single cup brewer finally died, I purchased the Bunn and have owned it for several weeks. The machine does what it promises. A big plus is that the same coffee I made previously actually tastes better from this machine. I wasn't a full believer in these claims, but the results convinced me.Just a few things you should be aware of. I use the K-cup drawer as well as the ground coffee drawer mostly. About the ground coffee drawer: I used to empty the grounds by tapping hard on the drawer (upside down, into the trash can). All too often, this caused the cover of the drawer-thingy to pop off, and along with that, the little plastic piece that holds that cover in place. At first, I thought I had a defective drawer, I reported the issue to Bunn, and they quickly send a replacement (no charge). But I continued to have the problem with the new drawer as well. I figured out that part of what was making it so difficult to dump out the grounds was that I was using a very fine grind. Also, I was tapping on the side of the drawer; if you tap on the end, that cover is less likely to fall off. But still, when that tiny plastic piece falls into the trash, it's just no fun trying to dig it out. Now, I just use a spoon to scoop out most of the grounds. Then rinse in the sink to get the rest out. I have figured out that this mostly happens when I try to fill my travel mug; I now do 2 separate brew cycles to fill the mug (doesn't really take much longer; as soon as the first 8 oz or so finishes brewing, then add another 2 oz of water or however much you need to fill your travel mug, hit brew again, and you fill the mug without much additional time). I've learned that when this happens, just unplug the unit to stop it. Usually, you've already got your coffee anyway, it's just that the machine keeps hissing for some reason. I then follow this with just running a cup of water thru because the next cup tends to come out short (meaning, it dispenses less water than you put in). My working theory is that the internal reservoir loses some water (evaporation?), but the machine is unable to re-calibrate itself. Anyway, doing this usually get me back on track again. I bought this unit to replace my SECOND Keurig that died after about a year and a half. I love the fact that I can still use the K-cup if I'm in a super hurry. The cost of the K-cups isn't quite so bad if you only use them rarely. The rest of the time, I use ground coffee. And have more coffee flavors to chose from. But doing that every day is very expensive, so to get that same taste at home, I use a BUNN 10-cup pourover brewer. It’s the only coffee maker that gives the the same boldness and consistency as in the Drive Thru. And since BUNN coffee makers are timeless, I’ve been using it for 20 years and won’t trade it for anything. But brewing a whole pot every day also gets expensive, as I end up throwing away tons of coffee. First I tried the Tassimo with the Tim Hortons brand cartridges, but I could only get a tiny cup of coffee, and it never tasted quite the same as the Drive Thru. I got rid of the Tassimo. Then I researched into Keurig machines, which I found also fell short of of the quality I was looking for, as they don’t reach the required brew temperature and provide no flexibility and lack customizability of my brew, so I ended up choosing the BUNN My Cafe for its versatility and compact size. Compared to the other single serve machines, I found it to be much more practical since it gives the option to brew pods, tea bags, loose coffee and tea, as well as K-Cups. The BUNN My Cafe is many machines in one.georgewongdesign.com/gwd/upload/files/Drake-Software-Manual.pdf It’s amazingly flexible, with 4 separate drawers that allow you choose the way you want to prepare your hot beverage to suit your tastes. If you want a fool-proof way to make a reliable cup of Joe, you can just pop in a K-Cup and play it safe. Or you can experiment and customize your beverage like I did. It's also super-fast. It can make a cup of coffee or tea in under a minute. With its on-board kettle, the stored water is always kept hot and the machine is always ready for action, no warm-up time needed. It also dispenses instant 200 degree hot water in any amount from 4 oz to 14 oz for any use. I like that it goes into standby mode after about 6 hours to save energy, and when it detects that a drawer is removed it springs back to life, and is ready to brew within seconds. The design of the machine is purposely boring and dated because a BUNN is built to last generations. It is slightly commercial or industrial in appearance, more suited to a diner or restaurant, but also looks great in any kitchen. Personally, I love the timelessness of the design. When it comes to coffee makers, few models win over their owners such that repeated sales of the same exact model are guaranteed in the future if needed. To make a cup of coffee with the ground coffee drawer took some experimentation in order to get the drive-thru taste I crave. I settled on the following procedure: Tim Hortons Medium Double-Double: - FIRST pour 2 ounces of 18 cream into the bottom of a big mug - Pour 12oz of water into machine - Insert an Eckobrew single serve paper filter into the “ground coffee drawer” - Scoop 10g or 1 scoop of coffee into the basket and slide it onto the machine - With PULSE activated, press BREW and wait until finished. - Stir in 2 spoons of sugar (optional)? ?If you want a high-performance yet simple machine that won’t take up much counter space, I highly recommend this machine. It makes great coffee, and with the 2 year warranty, you can rely on the BUNN My Cafe to provide you with delicious coffee or tea for years. If mine were to go today I would buy another one. If you're thinking about getting this machine, stop thinking about it and get it today. You won't be disappointed.Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again After three months with the first unit. We use it once a day and clean as per recommended instructions. After three months with the first unit it started to over pressurize and began spraying water out the side of the cups. Bunn replaced the unit with a new one and after six months that one stopped heating. On a positive side, Bunn is a great company to deal with, they have bben very accommodating throughout the process and I would recommend the company at any time. This product however I do not believe has been built to manage daily use. It makes great coffee but too short a life span.Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again It's fast, quiet, and does quite a bit. Also the flavour is better because of the pulse mode! 2. Can brew hot water: For just that, I use it for soups 3. Keurig pod coffee: I already have a Tassimo T65 machine (which is great btw) but I wanted a Keurig so I could try out the many flavours that are not available for my Tassimo. Now I have both, which is great 4. Can brew loose leaf tea and ground coffee: I normally used a kettle and french press for this purpose, and still do when brewing for a party, but now I can have a quick single cup. The pulsed flavour is actually better than the french press. As far as the machine goes, it has a really good look to it, it's great that it keeps the water warm and has an energy saver feature. With the water kept warm, it starts brewing almost immediately after the button is pressed. Really great The two year warranty and Bunn's reputation as an industrial brand make for a good addition to the kitchen. I would definitely recommend!Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again If you are not aware that you must add the correct amount of water you wish to use for brewing you might overflow your cup. I don't see this as a big issue, actually very handy once you are used to it. It does get a bit hotter though than other coffee makers it seems. A bit too hot for an ideal cup, mostly this is a matter of preference, but worth considering it if you know how you like your coffee.Sorry, we failed to record your vote. This machine has virtually the same specifications as the previous MCU, but it doesn’t come with the drawer system that lets you brew tea bags, ground coffee, or just plain old hot water. Instead, it’s now just designed to be Keurig K-Cup compatible. Still, it has the same high-quality components and is a great, compact, inexpensive single-serve machine if you don’t mind buying K-Cups. The Coffee Maven Conclusion Impressive functionality in a simple, compact design. While I’ll cover everything you need to know in this BUNN My Cafe MCU review, that pretty much sums up this brewer. Brew K-Cups, ground coffee, tea, or prepare simple hot water for hot cocoa, oatmeal, or to finish off an Americano — this little machine does it all in under 60 seconds. It does have a few drawbacks specifically related to its compact design — most notably the inability to remove the water reservoir from the device — but this coffee maker will brew you a hot cup of your beverage of choice without a ton of hassle. The drawer system (pictured below) allows you to choose your brew, and the Pulse Brew system can make your cup of coffee or tea even stronger. As someone who usually drinks their coffee on the go, I love the removable drip tray that helps fit my travel mug. Appearance: 8.3 While the sleek profile is great, the look is rather plain and boring. It definitely isn’t the most stylish of kitchen appliances. Durability: 9.0 Overall, there aren’t many moving parts on this machine and that aids its longevity. The internal water tank is made of stainless steel and thus is of superior quality. Should you run into any issues, BUNN offers a two-year warranty. Quality of Coffee: 9.3 This coffee gets hot, even after adding milk or cream. The Pulse Brew technology lets those who love strong coffee get something more to their taste, and overall the quality of the brew is impressive given this coffee maker does more than just make coffee. Ease of Cleaning: 9.4 Removing the drawer attachments for cleaning is a breeze. However, the biggest complaint about cleaning is that removing spent grounds from the ground coffee drawer can sometimes be a pain. Unlike Keurig devices, there is no internal filter that needs to be replaced every few months. Should you run into a clogged valve, cleaning the internal components requires a little bit of precision (and a bent paperclip), but there is a great YouTube video that can help you with it. Standout Features 4 Drawer Attachments for Multi-Use Brewing The major selling point of the BUNN My Cafe MCU Multi-Use Brewer is right there in the name — it has more than one use. The BUNN MCU Single Cup Multi-Use Brewer can prepare almost any beverage you could want. Just choose from 4 different drawer attachments and switch between brews.: K-Cup coffee Ground coffee Loose leaf tea Soft pods for tea and coffee Hot cocoa Instant coffee Oatmeal Hot water to top off an Americano 4 interchangeable drawers give you the flexibility to brew whatever you want Even better, because you switch out drawers when changing between coffee, tea, and other beverages, there will be no mixing of flavors. There are 3 small but notables downsides of this drawer attachment system: Requires additional storage K-Cup drawer attachment tends to leave a little bit of standing water on top of the drawer after each use, so just be careful when removing it Sometimes the drawers don’t seal perfectly and water can spurt Leverage the Pulse Brew system for a stronger cup Water contact time is crucial for a decently strong cup of coffee or tea. The BUNN Pulse Brew System helps achieve that by soaking the grounds with an initial wave of hot water (called blooming ), then pausing to let the grounds soak before continuing the flow of hot water. The pause stage is called pre-infusion and helps the grounds release the acids and other compounds that give you the strong cup you’re looking for. Note: If you use the Pulse Brew feature, you won’t get your coffee in under 60 seconds. It’ll take an extra minute. Compact design While the appearance of this coffee maker is rather unassuming, this is a strength in some senses. Potential Shortcomings Water tank is not removable The biggest shortcoming to note in this BUNN My Cafe MCU review — the water try is not removable. For those who frequently use their machine, this isn’t a big deal. If you only use it occasionally, though, you may not enjoy having stagnant water sit in the machine. Another consequence of the non-removable water tray is that, depending on the mug you use, it can be slightly annoying to fill the reservoir with water. Not all mugs pour perfectly. You might have some spillage that the drip tray doesn’t catch. The closest you’ll get to turning it off is unplugging it, but each time you plug it back in you have to wait about two minutes before you can start the 60-second brew process.
