The router's CPU load is at 4 and available ram is 94. It's quite robust. Oh btw, I immediately flashed the stock firmware in favor of DDWRT which has been working absolutely flawlessly. Someone had commented that there were issues with running DDWRT with this router but I have not been able to find any such problems. Perhaps the issue has been fixed at Buffalo or at DD-WRT. I love it.Buffalo is one of the few manufacturers who still use external antennas. I do wish that the antennas on this router were removable but, they are not. This router still offers better range than those routers without antennas and the gigabit ethernet ports are just what you need if your computers already have gigabit capability. This routers uses the popular DD-WRT firmware which has way more features than most people will ever need but, they are there should you want to experiment with it's capabilities. I had been using WRT54G type Linksys routers in the past and had a good and reliable experience with them but, they were just 54G wireless speed and I initially tried the D-link DIR-655 router and after having tried 2 of them that continually kept rebooting and losing connection randomly I got fed up with that and I was looking for a router with gigabit ethernet ports and good range. This Buffalo is marketed as a high power router and it does have a high power transmitter than can be adjusted easily in the firmware. I had the higher gain Linksys antennas on my WRT54G router and this Buffalo puts out at least that well and probably better. The D-link DIR-655 didn't have as much signal as this Buffalo and the D-link has problems with that model as evidenced by the posts in their support forums with the same type of sporadic connection problems with the wireless and wired connections and I contacted D-link tech support and they are so bad they asked me why I wanted to update the firmware. About the only complaint I have with this router is the lack of removable antennas. If you could replace the original antennas with even higher gain antennas this thing would be awesome and would have gotten 5 stars. This thing has way more range than 95 of people would need and I'm just a stickler for maximum range. I can't imagine a house so large that this router couldn't supply it with plenty of wi-fi coverage.Why is it that internet providers almost always provide sub standard hardware. I've been on virgin 10mb for a couple months now. Low signal range, wireless speeds pathetic, etc. I'm a very experienced computer user, and have setup many networks in the past so know what I am doing. Returned after a week. The Linksys has probably the lowest signal strength I've ever seen from a router, a bedroom 1 floor up cannot detect the network. Returned after a day. I have NEVER seen wireless deliver anywhere near the same speed as a wired connection. And this router has done just that. Absolutely amazing. Avoid Belkin. Avoid Linksys. Buffalo is the way forward. I've plugged my Windows 7 box, Linux box and TV into the wired ports, and everything just works, including VPN. It connected to my Kindle first time and I get good wireless reception in every room in the house, and that can't be bad. (YMMV: Your Mansion May Vary.) It's worth experimenting with the orientation of the aerials, as that seems to make quite a difference to the indicated signal strength. Mochte man mehr kann man die DD-WRT Firmware installieren. Da mich das Ganze, auch als Laie, sehr interessiert hat, habe ich einen ganzen Nachmittag mit DD-WRT zugebracht und mich intensiv damit beschaftigt. Es hat Spass gemacht und ich bin jetzt ein bisschen schlauer, die Moglichkeiten, die man mit dieser FW hat, sind auf jeden Fall absolut fantastisch. Einziger Kritikpunkt: Nachdem ich die Userfriendly FW auf 1.77 upgegraded hatte konnte ich meinen drahtlosen Drucker nicht mehr ansprechen obwohl er mit dem Router verbunden war. Beim downgrade auf die 1.74 hat es wieder funktioniert genauso wie mit DD-WRT. Die Reichweite ist fur mich absolut zufriedenstellend, in der gesamten Wohnung habe ich guten Empfang und sehr gute Geschwindigkeiten. Please try again Wichtig war mir dafur neben einer guten Software und einer stabilen Verbindung vorallem auch die WLAN Reichweite und Geschwindigkeit. Schlie?lich fiel die Entscheidung auf diesen Router. Die DD-WRT Software ist komfortabel zu bedienen und bietet viele Einstellmoglichkeiten. Klare Verbesserung zum bisher verwendeten Netgear Router. Die Verbindung lasst sich besser verwalten und aktiviertes QoS ist bemerkbar. USB, Medienserver, Torrent Client,.Soweit bin ich mit dem Router und dessen Funktionsumfang zufrieden. Beim testen des WLANs wo die stark verbesserte Reichweite und Geschwindigkeit angepriesen wird kam jedoch dann die Enttauschung. Trotz 2 statt bisher 1 Antenne und einem aktuellen Gerat hatte ich bei der Empfangsstarke (Windowsanzeige) nur 1 Balken. Auch eine Ausrichtung der Antennen brachte nur eine geringe Verbesserung auf 2 Balken. Zwischen Router und Client liegen dabei lediglich eine Leichtbauwand und eine Decke, wobei diese sogar uber eine Gallerie zum darunterliegenden Aufenthaltsraum offen ist. Leider lasst sich die Leistung der Antennen in der Software nicht anpassen obwohl die verantwortlichen Eintrage vorhanden sind. Anscheinend liegt hier ein Problem mit der DD-WRT Software vor und bisher ist keine Losung in Sicht. The device stopped working during a storm. After trying to get it to work I reset it to factory defaults. It now works but I have the same problem I had when I first bought it. I can no longer get any support even extended support. The support stops when the warranty stops there is no way to get technical support. I saw an earlier review that stated they were not satisfied with the Buffalo AirStation N300 because they had to unplug and then plug it back in every day. This has been my experience as well. Some times I have to do this 2 or 3 times in a day. I will be updating the Linksys router in a couple of months and hope this will solve the issue. My old Linksys access point always worked fine until it died. I will say I was very impressed by the Buffalo support team. I totally lost access to the Buffalo device for a while and their support team fixed the problem.He attempted to install it himself using the provided CD but wasn't able to make it work. I work in IT and have some experience with this type of thing, so the first thing I did was go to the manufacturer's website and get the official user guide in PDF form. My experience is that you should forget any one-button setups and just dive in and configure it manually. If the easy set-up wizard had worked for the casual user, I would have rated it a 5. Otherwise, be sure you are comfortable with finding out the security type of your wireless network and temporarily changing an IP address.Previously I used USB wireless adapters for my home wireless network and often had to struggle with drivers and fluctuating connection strength. With the ethernet adapter, my computer reads the connection like a hardline and completely eliminates the service fluctuations. Also, because the unit connects without drivers, there's nothing to install on my system and I can transport the unit to any computer and have the exact same strong connection. This is a wonderful piece of technology from Buffalo. I'll probably end up buying another for my wife's home office computer (she's often relucant to change to anything new). BTW, I'm using Ubuntu as an operating system. This is a great unit for any linux user as it circumvents the need to for using converted window drivers.I've had these for a few weeks now. After installation I get the full 10 Mbps on my laptops (connected directly to the access point), my XBox (connected to the ethernet-converter device), and on my Motorola Droid 1. Regarding local-network-only speeds, I tested a transfer from a Win XP laptop to a Win 7 laptop, and only get 10 Mbps speed; maybe my old router is limiting transfer speeds, I'm not sure. Luckily it doesn't matter, I only care about the internet speed, and I'm getting all of it. INSTALLATION: For the most part just follow the instructions, but I did spend 2 hours with various hiccups that can be avoided, so here are a few tips: 1. Remove your old wireless network from your computer's list, or else disable the old wireless network. If your PC connects to that old network automatically, it will interfere with the wired connection to the Buffalo device that you need during setup, and you'll get a warning that there are 2 network connections available. 2. When setting up a wireless-to-wired ethernet conversion, be aware that if you use the AOSS feature to automatically connect 2 of these devices, the way they do it is to generate a new network for that one connection (with its own SSID and password). If you want to avoid that (as I did), they provide the option to install a piece of software on your PC that will let you connect the device to the same SSID you'll be using with your other devices. You'll connect to your new wireless network, only to see your network speed drop from 130 Mbps to 65 Mbps to 1 Mbps. It'll fluctuate back and forth and you'll think there's something wrong. Give it 10 min and it will stabilize at full speed. (seems to happen again if you power them off and back on) CUSTOMER SERVICE: I thought I had a problem during that warm-up period I mention above, and called customer service. The phone was answered by a tech immediately (no wait time). Beyond that I can't say, my network stabilized while I was on the phone so I didn't need any help after all.I did and it works just fine, but other's have bad tales to tell if the device loses power at all. That said, I paired this (connected to my router) with the Trendnet TEW-684UB usb adapter and simply pushed the AOSS button on the side of this airstation, then pressed the top button on the Trendnet usb device, they connected and I quickly had a nice, fast n speed connection. I've had them both since 2012, with no problems at all. I highly recommend this pair of wireless devices.
