I was a professional dressmaker but now retired. I just wanted a machine that I could pull out quickly and sew a hem or do a repair. Talk about failing on every point. Not even the pressure foot has the guide in the right place. This machine is poorly designed and a complete disaster really. Purchased at Spotlight Retail Stores.Budget price and still not worth the money.I have had nothing but problems with the tension- as per most of the other reviews on here.I need a machine that is reliable to just quickly jump on it and fix things. Kivrin It's as though the foot is trying to gather the stitches as with a gathering foot. It's fine with cotton and cotton blends. Also, is it possible to buy a treadle on its own. I'm not a heavy sewist, and my machine was in storage for a few years while we renovated our house. I now use it most weeks without any issues. If you like to take the case off your machine to give it a clean every now and then, this machine will probably annoy you. I found it impossible to do, although its pretty easy to remove the sewing plate and bob. Read more bin holder to remove fluff build-up. Also, if you plan on doing any smocking with elastic thread, this probably isn't the machine for you. I tried it recently without success, although apparently by taking out the bobbin holder and manually adjusting the tension, this can be overcome. I haven't tried it yet. Since I had nothing to lose and my machine is well out of warranty, I decided to manually adjust the bobbin tension to see if I could fix the issue (I hadn't wanted to risk messing with it just to play around with smocking). There's a little screw covered in green wax on the bobbin holder - I tightened it just a little and it completely fixed the birds nest issue. Overall, I love my Brother BM-2600. I bought it on sale and together we've created some great quality garments and sewing projects. I think for the price it does a great job, and any issues I've had are pretty minor. I recently got sewing and I am just sewing simple things like place mates and pillows. I set this up all according to the manual and found that it went perfectly. I used it and I got about 15 minutes in and I noticed that the bottom bobbin thread had found its way out of the correct place. Once I got it back in place birds nests would just keep happening. When I first bought it I had trouble with tension, I often found that I had just put the bobbin in slightly wrong (very easy to do). I found that taking in out and putting it in again seemed to work. However a little while ago a friend borrowed it, some how they managed to change the needle position. On a Brother machine it has a plastic piece that stops the bobbin spinning when it is full. This sliding across may take some effort so push quite hard. It also stops the needle from moving. I am using cotton fabrics and good quality thread, very frustrating and I need to finish my project. Any help would be really appreciated.A number of things can make a difference with tension. Adjusting the tension dial rarely made a difference to me so I now leave it on the middle setting (5 I think) and never move it. Other things I try are: changing the needle (even if it is reasonably new); completely taking out and re-threading both upper and lower threads; cleaning out the bobbin case (as per instruction manual); using a different brand of thread; reading the troubleshooting section of the manual; watching u-tube videos of how to set up the machine (there are a couple of really good ones). I can't see a way to adjust the feed dog or the foot plate tension on this machine, which is frustrating. Is it for all material. If it's just this material and the material is slippery try adding tissue and then ripping it off after you've stitched through it. Otherwise you need to get the machine serviced. Like Report Kivrin 3 years ago Is the fabric silky, shiny. You may have to help it out by gently pulling on the other end of it. Unless you have found a way to put the feed dogs down by mistake. There's normally a lever for this but, as in the above answer, I haven't found one. I hope this helps. Like Report Quilty Things 3 years ago It may be stuck because of a number of reasons. Trouble-shoot one thing at a time. See if the presser foot is feeding the fabric towards the needle properly (is it 'hopping' up and down). Is the machine working okay when there is no fabric being fed through or is the thread catching at the bobbin. Check the feed dogs are going up and down okay when there is no fabric.
