Always replace all six batteries at the same time with brand new ones. 4) Attach the back cover by inserting the two hooks on the bottom end of the back cover into the slots on the bot- tom end of the machine, then pushing down firmly on the cover until it snaps into place. Changing the tape cassette 1) Remove the back cover by pressing in on the rough area at the top end of the machine and pulling off the back cover. 2) If a tape cassette is already installed, pull it straight out and remove the paper tab from the new tape cassette. Make sure that the end of the tape in the new cassette feeds under the tape guides. Tapes available for purchase are 26.2’ (8m) long. 3) Insert the tape cassette, making sure that it clicks into place. Check that the cassette fits properly around the two metal guides in the cassette compartment. 4) Attach the back cover by inserting the two hooks on the bottom end of the back cover into the slots on the bot- tom end of the machine, then pushing down firmly on the cover until it snaps into place. 5) Feed the tape by holding down and pressing, then cut the tape by pressing in on the tape cutter button. The amount of tape remaining is visible through the window in the back of the P-Touch. When the usable tape is finished, green ribbon appears. Changing the cutter unit When the cutter becomes blunt and ceases to cut the tape cleanly, replace it. 1) Remove the back cover and the tape cassette. 2) Grasp the tab on the top of the cutter unit and pull out the cutter, taking care not to touch the blade. 3) Grasp the tab on the new cutter unit and insert it as shown below. Cleaning the print head If dust accumulates on the print head, blank horizontal lines may appear through the printed label. If this hap- pens, clean the print head as follows: 1) Turn off the P-Touch. 2) Remove the back cover and the tape cassette. 3) Use a dry cotton swab to gently wipe the print head and rubber pinch roller with an up-and-down motion. 4) Re-insert the tape cassette, attach the back cover, turn on the machine, hold down and press to feed the tape, and then try printing. 5) If blank lines remain in the printed label, repeat steps 1 through 4, this time using a cotton swab dipped in iso- propyl (rubbing) alcohol. It was a breeze, read through the manual, followed the step by step instructions and Bada Bing, it worked. I recently started doing real estate investing and had put a list of house addresses into an excel spreadsheet and all I had to do was select the cells that I wanted to print, right click, choose labeler from drop down, then print my labels. I first previewed the labels and decided to edit them and add a clip art to the labels, it was pretty easy. It took me all of 10 minutes clicking through the screens to see how things worked (probably would have been faster to look in the manual), I was able to create a standard label that I then applied to the other labels I printed by simply pushing a button. The only con is that I wish the front screen had a light in it so I could read it easier. The location of the labeler does not have the best light so I have to move it if I need to read the screen. Not really necessary to read the screen when using the PC because everything displays on the PC, but I also used it to manually type a label and the back lighting would have been key. Nice product and has made getting multiple files folders together a breeze and has saved me time, which I don't seem to have much of these days.These labels are great and so easy to make. As other reviewers state, the machine is the cheap part, the tape is the expensive part. Check the cutting settings so you don't waste tape. I have not used the software that comes with this as those capibilities at this time exceed my needs. I leave it plugged in and it is reay to go. After a short period of non-use it goes to sleep. I am using the labels for cords and transfomers around my computer, labeling items, and will soon use them on file folders. At that time I may find uses for the software. All yo do is type in your info, if you need more than one line hit enter. Easy preview. You just have to remember to hit enter after every entry in the menu. The info remains so you can print it again or easily clear. I recommend it.The LED window helps me to keep track of and get rid of those nasty typos as I go along, an extremely easy device to read. Be sure to read the instructions in the book on how to take care of that. When I have a lot of labels to make I will enter four extra spaces between each item. I print out the whole long list and then cut the individual titles apart. This is extremely easy to do because of the backing on the tape. Sharp finger nails and tweezers are no longer needed. Only problem with all the label making I have been doing, is I now have to buy more tape.:-) Enjoy.It's not too expensive to replace the ribbon, and we got it at a close out price, so it was a good value. We organized a bit, reduced and labelled items in our garage and office, and it makes nice labels for the edges of your file cabinet dividers, so it's well worth it. She has been very happy with the results and is always happy to accommodate my requests for labeling. It is easy to use and offers many options.Once we got it and found out how much it could do, we ordered a bunch more of different label types. It is easy to use and with the PC software, one can design personalized labels and see them on the screen before actually printing it. Software and the driver were in an easy install, but download the newest version of the software from the Brother support site.
