I wanted a model with a power cord versus a battery model because it's difficult to estimate the life of the battery. Measuring 11 feet, the cord on this model is exceptionally long. The center of the unit houses two counter-rotating pods, each with two knobs. In the Shiatsu-only mode, the knobs kneed the back of my neck, similar to the effect of two thumbs. Low, Medium, and High settings alter the speed of the rotation. It feels like two hot water bottles placed over my shoulders. I typically turn on the heat, Tapping, and Shiatsu simultaneously, but sometimes I'll turn on only the heat to warm up an especially sore muscle area and then activate the Shiatsu and Tapping massage afterwards. The heat has a built-in timer that turns itself off after approximately ten minutes. This design allows you to place your wrists through the two loops and pull the unit downward as much as necessary to provide extra pressure when desired. When it comes to new products I typically prefer to avoid the risks of an early adopter, but this product was an exception. I am very satisfied and would gladly do it again. This unit pays for itself very quickly and should provide a good return on investment. I should mention that I'm 6' tall and 200 pounds, and this massager feels like it's the right size for me. However, I can see how it might be a bit much for someone who's smaller in stature. Brookstone has other models that might be better suited for that user. I strongly recommend trying out the different models in person if possible. This model is designed well - built to last. But my son had one and I loved using it. However, mine (like most of the reviews said) only worked for about ten minutes. Then none of the buttons worked. I had to unplug it to turn it off. I cant understand why the manufacturer hasn't fixed the common problem since it is obviously a recall issue. But the ten minutes that it did work it was fabulous. I returned it for a full refund.
