This will not work with the coffee t-discs, but I believe the flavor of the espresso discs holds up with this process and you can get more drink out of the discs this way (also works with tea). So, what you'll gain in speed and ease of clean up, you'll have to pay for with your wallet. A Taste of the Tassimo In the past we've always complained about the strength and flavor of capsule-based machines. Some of the espressos felt watered-down as if the amount of coffee in the pod was not sufficient compared to the amount of water being injected through the capsule. Not so with the Tassimo, the Gevalia espresso in particularly delivered a completely balanced espresso with a smooth, yet strong taste. We were also pleasantly surprised at the taste of the cappuccino, perhaps aided by the fact that the Tassimo uses real milk in their cappuccino T-Discs. Of the different coffees (cafe Americano) we've tried, the taste of Carte Noire was exceptional and in this category the Gevalia performed well again. The Performance The Braun Tassimo is not the fastest of the capsule-based brewing machines we've reviewed, that award belongs to the Nespresso brand of coffee machines, but it is still fast enough to brew an espresso in just 30 seconds, and coffee and tea in under 60 seconds. The machine will take approximately thirty seconds to warm up before it is ready for use. Sadly, the Tassimo is missing a milk frother attachment, which is a standard feature in many other coffee machines. Though the cappuccinos are delicious and have some froth when using the cappuccino T-Discs, it would be nice to be able to have apply as much milk foam as desired. You'll want to keep this in mind before making a purchase. Conclusion The Braun Tassimo is easy to use, easy to clean and easy to recommend. With such a wide range of options and features it is truly in a field of its own. And even though this is as multi-purpose as it gets, the Tassimo performs extremely well in all categories, most importantly in the taste department. Just changed jobs and now have an office big enough for a coffee maker (had a cubicle before), so decided I wanted a Tassimo for work. I think these are a great investment because in comparison to buying coffee at Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts, you'll spend much less per cup (even if you have to use two disks to have the same amount of coffee as a grande or venti). This coffee maker (really a misnomer) gives you so many options. You can make many varieties of coffee, cappucino, decaf cappucino, lattes, chai lattes, many varieties of tea, and hot chocolate. To call it a coffee maker really does not do it justice. It is really helpful to have the water reservoir for this unit. I can go at least a few days without having to fill it up in between uses. Saves time because I can stay at my desk and continue my work. Aesthetically, this unit is very nice (though the newer design I think looks even nicer). It goes well with my home kitchen as well as office furniture. The only negative I can see is that the milk disks don't completely empty so when you take them out, they tend to leak a bit if you're not careful. A small price to pay. BUT be SURE if you buy a used one, that they send the CORRECT water container with it; mine came with a different container which SEEMED to fit, but i couldn't get the unit to work until i got a correct one from a friend who had replaced her unit. BAD: The ONLY negative is that it is hard to find their coffee discs at times. Bought new it served reliably for almost a decade. If a delicate pressure regulating membrane had not finally failed it would still be in use. The years of daily use before it's failure is more than I ever expected. If parts available I would have simply repaired it. These discontinued machines were very high quality builds. I always use bottled water in it at work so I probably will replace it once in a blue moon. WOW what a latte!!! I have a Keurig at home and wanted a single cup brewer while I was working out of town. First I tried a Senseo that I found in a thrift shop. The coffee was good, but I did not have a variety of flavors and the coffee was expensive. Then I found a really good auction for a Braun Tassimo on eBay. In anticipation, I went to Walmart and purchased regular coffee and Latte. When the machine arrived, I made a latte in the wrong sequence, but it was delicious. I now use a Boudum glass mug - Sweetener in first, foam the milk then add the espresso as per the instructions, then sprinkle a light dusting of vanilla sugar on foam. I not only have a delightful flavor, but also a visual treat of the different layer s. Even though the Tassimo T-cups are a little more complex than the Keurig K-cups, they seem to be a little cheaper for regular coffee. This is the best machine for coffee I have ever owned. Now instead of making and wasting a whole pot, I can make 1 cup at a time, plus I can have a varity of flavors, as well as teas. I would recommend the Braun Tassimo TA144 coffee machine to anyone. The reason I gave it 4 stars is that it's the 3rd one I've had, the other 2 breaking. I was left with 57 pods, so wanted to use. Coffee is fine. K-cups far more widly available. When I opened the box on Christmas Day I found the product to be all in pieces and the product was dirty. I did not receive any instructions on its use. I also noticed the coffee maker leaked. No more Starbucks here. I would say the only negative thing is it is loud, but that only last a second. I had a Tassimo for a wedding present and am extremely disappointed.
