Have you already decided what you want to capture on 8mm.Dark or light subjects. Most super 8 cameras you'll find on flea markets or in 2nd hand shops are very simple, straightforward to use cameras. Those were the cheapest at the time so most people bought these. Usually they have a minimal range of exposure possibilities, or a limited range of cartridges you can use (cartridge notches). These cameras were used for holidays, outside, lots of (sun-) light. The more expensive cameras have more features, like adjustable shutters, exposure time, interval timers, better lenses, more settings for a larger range of super 8 film. Bear this in mind when you want to choose one.For daylight you must use this filter, which reduces the amount of light passing onto the film surface. This is the reason why the same film 'has different filmspeeds'. Inserting a 64t cartridge into one of these cameras will most likely result in one of two possibilities: an underexposure due to the camera metering for 160 ASA film loaded or an overexposure due to the camera metering for 40 ASA. However. if you don't try, you'll never know. Maybe it's worth a try. It's also possible to use an ND filter to compensate. Look in the table at the end of this page (scroll down) to read about this. Used with 85B for dayligth usage it has only 40 ASA.If you don't have a manual, maybe you can find some info here. Also I spoke with someone who successfully shot a roll of 64T with her Canon 310 XL. I've seen the pictures and it came out nice. She filmed indoors and outdoors with it. Try a roll before shooting your feature!https://www.interactivelearnings.com/forum/selenium-using-c/topic/13299/3-speed-manual-transmission-identification The Logmar S-8 (official page), designed by an enterprising father-son team in Denmark, is a Super 8 camera that combines the best of analog AND digital technology. Read more about this cam on Wired, and don't forget to watch some Kodak Vision 3 50D footage on Vimeo. Interested in buying a Logmar S-8 camera. Alas, they were made in a limited quantity, so it's best to keep eyes and ears open and maybe you can find a nice 2nd hand (much cheaper as well). Price? I'm Sorry, Kodak Wants How Much For Its New Super 8 Camera. The product portfolio included high-fidelity audio and record players, electric shavers, mixers, pocket calculators, slide projectors, and Super 8 film cameras. In 1962 Nizo was facing bankruptcy, but luckily, Braun saved Nizo by acquiring the company. In 1965, the Nizo S 8 was presented, designed by Robert Oberheim. Its successor, the 1968 Nizo S 80 was acquired for the collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. For almost two decades, the design of the various cameras basically stayed the same: the clean geometric shape consisted of the main housing made of matte-polished anodized aluminum, the lens, and a black plastic handgrip. The Nizo S 800 of the early 1970s was the first Nizo that was also available in black. In 1980, Nizo is sold to the competitor Bauer, and in 1982, the factory was closed. The camera is still fully functional and will be used by VernissageTV for the coverage of selected events. You could be one. You can also fill the same container with rechargeable AA cells (1.2V) and use it as a rechargeable battery pack on the Nizo 2056 sound. You can fill either batteries or cells into them, it does not matter. Obviously, though, the battery containers cannot be recharged;). I recall there is a topic about it on this forum, I guess I can search and find it because I don't recall the intricacies of it. The earlier boxes-- though interchangeable-- lack the charger jack. In fact, a fully charged nicad Accu-box will often read 8.5 volts or more, especially if the cells are getting older. The problem with alkalines is that they lack the current capacity for running sound cartridges, even more so for 200 foot loads. That's why they weren't recommended in the 6080 manual. Later cameras had an unreliable provenance-- not necessarily bad manufacture. I just bought a 6080 on EBay: my thech has it now for overhaull, replacing the belts among other things and I have a spare acu-box that I can load either with 6x1.5 alcaline or 6x1.2 rechargeable. The Braun Nizo 6080 is a highly specified camera with a superb Schneider 7-80mm lens. An ideal camera for music promos or lower budget. A 200-foot cartridge later became available which could be used in specifically designed cameras, but that Kodak cartridge is no longer produced. Super 8 film was typically a reversal stock. In the 1990s Pro-8 mm pioneered custom loading of several Super-8 stocks. Today Super 8 color negative film is available directly from Kodak for professional use and is typically transferred to video through the Telecine process for use in a Television advertisement, music videos, and other film projects. The Eastman Kodak Company announced the reintroduction of In addition, coded notches cut into the Super-8 film cartridge exterior allowed the camera to recognize the film speed automatically.www.denizraf.com/image/files/canon-eos-60d-manual-download.pdf Not all cameras can read all the notches correctly though and not all cartridges are notched correctly such as Kodak Vision2 200T. Usually, testing one cartridge of film can help handle any uncertainty a filmmaker may have about how well their Super-8 camera reads different film stocks. Color stocks were generally available only in tungsten (3400K), and almost all Super 8 cameras come with a switchable daylight filter built in, allowing for both indoor and outdoor shooting. The sound film had a magnetic soundtrack and came in larger cartridges than the original so as to accommodate a longer film path (required for smoothing the film movement before it reached the recording head), and a second aperture for the recording head. Sound cameras were compatible with silent cartridges, but not vice versa. Sound film was typically filmed at a speed of 18 or 24 frames per second. Kodak discontinued the production of Super 8 sound film in 1997, citing environmental regulations as the reason (the adhesive used to bond the magnetic track to the film was environmentally hazardous). The cartridge that contains the sound film was longer than the silent cartridge. But the new sound cameras were compatible with both cartridges. Kodak marketed the Ektasound series and the new cartridge with 2 different emulsions: Kodachrome II Sound and Ektachrome 160 A Sound. Many updates of film stocks are in response to the improvement of digital video technology. The growing popularity and availability of non-linear editing systems has allowed film-makers to shoot Super-8 film but edit on video, thereby avoiding much of the scratches and dust that can accrue when editing the actual film. Unlike projectors of other brands, even from later years, the Stereovox does not need an external cable to transfer the sound from one track to the other: it is achieved by simply pressing a button. Thanks to the third head, the machine not only manages to record with echo effect, but, even more importantly, it allows listening, as soon as it is done in a recording session, the sound mix in overprint recorded by the immediately preceding heads, for check that the sound superposition is in the correct percentage (it is a particularity that, although it will never be used, or that is currently easily achieved with a computer, for whom we value these ingenious seventies designs and we like to record the sound of the as artisanal as possible, it is an authentic delight). I have tried switching the manual control around to see if it appears but there doesn't seem to be any pointer there at all. I don't really have much of a clue with super 8 cameras as this is my first so sorry if this question is rather idiotic. Thanks guys I'd recommend shooting a test roll or two, taking copious notes and preferably with a separate light meter. There's a good chance that the in-camera metering may be off, even in good working condition, so it is worth testing with known light values to get a gauge for what you are working with. Best of luck. If you have this battery installed, have good points in the battery compartment(no erosion), have tried to expose both manually and automatically, and the needle still doesn't move, then it may be dead. In that case you could do a controlled test like David said. Use an external meter. Then, with the known values of the light and film speed, you could make your own marks on the manual dial. You would have to keep copious notes on all settings and reading that way you can cross reference the f-stop values when they are correct. I think that's right?? It could get kinda expensive. You should be able to look through the lens to see if the aperture is getting smaller or bigger. If it isn't, don't bother with the film test cause nothing is working. Hope that helps.
