On-line Status Monitor The On-line Status Monitor provides printer status information. From the Options menu, you can select Warn if no Brady Smart Supp ly, Always on top or Unit of Measure (inc hes or m m). The Help men u provide s links to Brady Online. Figure 11, On-line Status Monitor We STRONGLY RECOMMEND the use of Brady-br and supplies and LabelMark, IdentiLab or BradySoft labeling software for uninterrupted high-quality printing. Thes e products will allow you to use all of the s pecial features of the printer, especially Brady mode (hassle-fre e operation). Refer to Standard Mode on pa ge 16.For metallized Brady label material, refer to Metallized Materi al on page 15. Metallized Material Hassle-Free Mode If you are using Br ady-brand supp lies and LabelMark, IdentiL ab or BradySoft labeling software, the softwa re will request selection of a part number prior to operation. Once the part num ber is sele cted, Hassle-free mode is completely operational. Standard Mode If you are not using Brady-brand supplies bu t LabelMark, Iden tiLab or BradySoft labeling software, the softwar e will ask if metallized material is installed when the printer cannot re ad a Brady IP enabled Supply. If you answer “yes,” the software will request se lection of a part number from a list prior to operation. The Br ady IP Printer will operate in Standard mode. Refer to Standard Mode on page 16. 1. This is true for onl y IP-enab led material (not compatible ). Refer to Gap Sensors on p age 17. Set the gap sensor s witch to the setting displayed and the printer will opera te in Brady mode. Refer to Brady Mode on page 14. If the material is not Brady-brand, th e printer will operate in Standar d mode. Refer to Standard Mode on page 16. Custom Material Custom Br ady materia l is proc essed in H assle-free mode. Standard Mode If the printer is operated in Standard mode or with non-Brad y software an d the user inserts Brady non-metallized label material, the printe r will automatically execut e the basic f unction s of dete cting heat setting, print speed and se nsor information. The re is no way for the printer to determine labe l size. The user will need to manually enter media print settings. Whenever possible, manually apply medi a print settings through the software. These sensors are controlled by a switch setting (Figure 13, 3). The switch can be set to the left or to the right. All Brady IP en abled material will instruct the user, via the f ront LCD d isplay, which position to set the switch. For non-standard material, set the sensor to position 2. Non-standard notched material is depende nt on specific supply criteria. 1. Open the co ver (Figure 1, 9) lower the control panel (Figure 1, 17), and press the green print module release bu tton (Figure 1, 1 5). 2. Move the switch (Figure 13, 3) to the left or right as required. 3. Lower the print modu le. Press firmly on the close points (Figure 1, 12) on both sides on the module until the printhead clicks firmly into position. 4. Lift the control panel (F igure 1, 17) and pres s firmly until the panel clicks into pos ition. 5. Close the cover (Figure 1, 9). NOTE: This switch cannot be made by the software. 1. Gap sensor 1 2. Standard Mode 1. Open the co ver (Figure 1, 9) lower the control panel (Figure 1, 17), and press the green print module release butto n (Figure 1, 15). 2. Adju st the se nsor kno b (Figure 14, 4) with a pointed tool until the sensor inside t he sensor window (Figu re 14, 3) is aligned with the edge of th e labels. If th e label mate rial is notch ed, the sensor must be aligned with th e notch. 3. Lowe r the print module (Figure 1, 14). Lift th e control panel (Figure 1, 17) and pr ess firmly until the panel clicks into position. 4. Close the cover (Figure 1, 9). C hoose Propertie s, then Printing preferen ces. Then Proper ties: Figure 16, Printing Preferences Dialog Box Figure 17, Custom Setti ngs Dialo g Box Peel-Off Mode The Brady IP Printer enables label ou tput in Peel-off mode. In this mode, a label is printed, separated from the liner and presented to th e user. The printer pauses until th e la bel is removed. After th e label is removed, the printer prints the next label and the cycle continues. Label stock is loaded as described in Feeding the Label — Peel-Off Mod e on page 28. NOTICE A sensor p revents fu rther printin g until the pr inted label has been removed from t he Peel-off pos ition. Tear-off mode is when the last label is presented to th e user so they can tear it off. After printing, detach the label strip manua lly. Tear-off mode is selected in the printer se tup menu of the so ftware pa ckage. Label stock is lo aded as descr ibed in Fee ding the Label — T ear-Off Mode on page 29. After printing, the strip label is detached by hand. The Brady IP Printer is equipped with a tear bar for this purpose. Figure 18, Loading the Ribbon NOTICE Do not use a ribbon for direc t thermal printing. Position the square end of th e new ribbon spindl e in the square notch on the right side of the printer, push the spindle slightly to the right and slide the othe r end of the spind le into th e notch o n the lef t side of t he printe r. 4. Thread the ribb on end forward, under the printhead an d back over the printhead ( Figure 18, 10) to the rib bon take-up spindle (Figur e 18, 8). Figure 19, Ri bbon Take-u p Spindle NOTE: If you need to remove t he ribbon take-up s pindle, pu sh the spindle slig htly to the right an d slide th e other en d of the spindle out of the notc h on the left side of the pr inter. Remo ve the ribbon take-up spindle. To replace the ribbo n take-up spindle, position the squar e end (Figure 19, 1) of the spindle in the square notch on the right s ide of the printer, push the spindle slightly to the right and slide the other en d of the spindle into the notc h on the left side of the printer. 5. Slide the end of the ri bbon under the ri bbon hold-down ta b (Figure 19, 2) so that about 2 inches (50.8 mm) protru de past the tab. NOTE: Install the ribbon so the ribbon path is under the take-up spin dle, NOT over the spindle. Fold the end of th e ribbon back on top of itself over the tab. 6. Tur n the ad justment w heel (Figure 18, 9) a few complete revolutions, to ensure that the ribbon will not pull out from u nder the ribbo n hold-down tab. The ribbon should now be snug and smoothed out against the printhead. 1. Square end 2. Ribbon hold-down ta b 3. Roun d end 4. Thumb lever 1 2 3 4 NOTE: To remove ribbon from the ribbon take-up spindle, press a nd hold the thumb leve r (Figure 19, 4) to co mpress the spindle an d slide the r ibbon of f the spindle. Loading the Material Label rolls are supp lied with different diameters. The material supply holder can hold label rolls with a minimum co r e diameter of 3 inches (76 mm). Figure 20, Material Supply Holder 1. Open the co ver (Figure 1, 9), lower the control panel (Figure 1, 17) and press the green print module release bu tton (Figure 1, 15). 2. Printable si de up NOTICE There are ele ctrical conta cts located under the side tabs (Figure 20, 1) on both sides of the material supply holder. Be careful not to damage thes e electrical conta cts or the Brady IP Printer will be unable to read the materia l identifica tion tag on t he labels. 6 6 5 4 3 1 1 2 Make sure material roll is installed with label printable side (u p) towards printhead (Figure 20, 6). Reinstall the end piece ( Figure 20, 4), which will automatically center the roll on the holder. 5. Reinsert the material supply holder onto the bracket grooves on the frame. Ensure the electrical contacts un der the side tabs (Figure 20, 1) are properly seated in the frame so the printe r will correctly read the material identification tag. Figure 21, Alig nment Guides 6. Thr ead the materia l under the print m odule, under the guides (Figure 21, 2) and forward through the slot in the contr ol panel. 7. Tur n the green dial on the left (Figu re 21, 1) to adjust the guides so th ey just snug up again st the labels. Do not tighten the gu ides enough to crimp the labels. 8. Apply thumb p ressure to t he clos e points (Figure 18, 7) on both sides of the prin t module u nt il it latches s ecurely in plac e. Once th e print m odule is latched in place, raise the front pane l and snap it into the closed positio n. 9. Close the print er cover (Figure 1, 9). 1. Green dial 2.
