So, nobody is using the differential inputs correctly (As there is no real need to) In the G540, all inputs are optoisolated and all the - lines of the inputs are tied to a common terminal. So it is basically identical to what everyone is doing with there differential drive setups. The important feature is that the inputs are opto-isolated, as the optos filter out voltage spikes and other transients. The advantage of being able to use true differential inputs is that you could have the drive a large distance from the controller or breakout board. I'm sure in a few special applications this is the case, but it is not relevant here. In the end if all you what to do is highlight the differences between your preferred drive and the G540 without any regard to it's suitability to this conversion project, then start a new thread in the electronics forum.
