We love our Vintage Audio and other built-to-last electronics equipment in an age of disposable products for a throw-away society. We might sell the kids before our classic silver Pioneer or Vintage Marantz, Kenwood and Sansui gear. If you also value High Quality Manuals that enhance the ownership satisfaction of your vintage audio treasures, you found the right place. (continued below.) It IS Our Guiding Principle Add Site to your Favorites Other sites we host: Phase Linear History Vintage Technics Database We sponsor two free Yahoo Audio Groups We are meticulous and give genuine best efforts to produce clean, well-constructed manuals for you. A side-by-side comparison of our reproduction manuals with those from many other vendors will usually reveal an overall better appearance, construction, and print quality. Sometimes strikingly so. Our Customer Comments page is a fraction of what we receive from real customers and electronics technicians. The vast majority of our printed reproduction manuals are Very Good to Excellent on our Guaranteed Quality Ratings scale. But every single item is not and we refuse to give a false impression that they are. We want you to see a detailed description and individually-assigned quality rating before you purchase. This time-consuming extra service is almost never provided by our competitors. Customer complaints are nearly zero, perhaps one per 500-1000 sales. We believe that virtually none of our competitors could truthfully make a similar claim. We are a USA based family business operating old-school style. The left channel on mine no longer works and I am trying to trouble shoot.I'm also 901 owner. and listener The problem I met was at the first place, the EQ. It's s-IV.http://fire-matic.com/testingsites/advantage_aviation/assets/media/bosch-maxx-lifestyle-service-manual.xml They are designed long time ago, before CD and DVD players. And as we know, their output signal is about 2V. EQ s-IV and earlier are designed for tape deck, tuner and turntable signals, which is about 0.5V. The higher signal levels overload the EQ and begin distortions. That's why, if you use players without regulated outputs, or if your receiver or preamp inputs are not attenuated, you'll have problems with the quality of the sound. But you know this very well Lately I use mine with The Bose Spatial Receiver. And even with this old vintage, with dry old capacitors and mash of switches and wires inside, I think, they sound well. And my advice is - don't try to use them without the right EQ. It's waste of time.Btw I think the 901's mid-century modern styling still looks cool, especially the black version and especially when the Bose pedestals are used with them (they were used this way in a cellphone commercial about four years ago, located in a swanky, light-colored modern apartment).OTOH, currently an old vintage speaker as the early series of 901 is much harder to beat than in those days, because the tendency of the sonic quality from today's commercial speakers have become significantly worse, even in the upper price class. Keep this always in mind. I am looking for a diy project with cheap but good quality full range transducers with the same design goals than by the 901, but higher quality. As I recall, they did sound amazing for their size. But for sure, it's not about the price, and for sure results are good By the way, I listen and a pair of 601s s-1, but they are fare from 901s, by my own Resources saved on this page: MySQL 15.79 vBulletin Optimisation provided by. Any ideas?l Reviewed Jun 12th, 2018 by Mrsteve I have owned two pair of these. The first pair a series IV, the Second pair a Series VI. I took advantage of the Bose Trade-in program some years ago when they still offered it. There are several companies that offer the drivers, and replacing them for both pair is around 560.00-Plus the time involved.I need to do a repair on the equalizer. I cannot find the Series III Service Manual. Thanks To be use for PA system or Karaoke. Any suggestion for an appropriate mixer. I'm looking for resources to help me troubleshoot and repair the equalizer. I don't have much experience, but I would like to learn, and this seems like a fun project. If anyone is willing to help break things down as simple as is convenient, or could help guide me in this process, I would be very grateful. We all have to start somewhere. I refurbished the speakers myself, and would like to say I did the same to the equalizer. Due to purchasing from a second hand store and not really knowing enough about them I consequently now own two right hand speakers. Not sure how this will affect the speakers. While it might well be quite possible to fix, I would be more interested in feeding the speakers from another signal source. The cable from the preamp connects to the speakers via a five-pin 180 degrees DIN plug, and so I think it should be quite possible to connect to some other signal source, the same way I have used a pair of Philips MFB speakers.http://fxturfspecialists.com/images/bose-901-series-1-equalizer-manual.pdf Am I right or am I right. Make leakage current or resistance measurements to determine that exposed parts are acceptably insulated from the supply circuit before returning the unit to the customer. Use the following checks to perform these measurements: A. W ith the unit AC switch first in the ON position, then in the OFF position, measure from a known earth ground (metal water pipe, conduit, etc.https://emergent-partners.com/wp-content/plugins/formcraft/file-upload/server/content/files/16270f30dedfb3---bowflex-owner-manual.pdf) to all exposed metal parts of the unit (antennas, handle bracket, metal cabinet, screw heads, metallic overlays, control shafts, etc.), especially any exposed metal parts that offer an electrical return path to the chassis. Any current measured must not exceed 0.5 milliamp. Reverse the unit power cord plug in the outlet and repeat test. When the exposed metallic part has a return path to the chassis, the reading should be between 1 and 5.2 Megohms. When there is no return path to the chassis, the reading must be “infinite”. If it is not within the limits specified, there is the possibility of a shock hazard, and the unit must be repaired and re- checked before it is returned to the customer. I found a guy selling 8 (I need 8) replacement speakers (Bose Brand) for the 901's and they're gone now.The consensus is that Bose spends a lot of money on marketing and not enough on making the products actually sound good. For a couple hundred, I'd say go to audiogon.com and look for something from a value-orientated brand with a good reputation for sound. You'll find people around here who have their favored manufacturers, and I'm no different. Paradigm speakers are bargains and I recommend trying them out. My dealer says - and I'm inclined to agree - that most Paradigms compare musically and sonically to big-name speakers costing twice as much. It should be noted that my dealer does not sell only Paradigm, but also Linn, Sonus Faber, and Vienna Acoustics, so he's heard the expensive stuff. Another thing to do is go to the main page and check out recommended loudspeakers, which will give you an idea of which companies are making the best products. My 901 had the surrounds completely disinigrate. I bought a surround repair kit. It was a bit difficult to do.http://test.uebersetzungen-nesselberger.de/wp-content/plugins/formcraft/file-upload/server/content/files/16270f31bda94b---bowflex-power-pro-manual-exercises.pdf The adhesive was really stringy and seemed to geton everything. Also it was very important to get the cone centered or the voice coil would drag and make bad noises. A speaker is a complete system and trying to substitute another driver will usually upset the balance of that system. Resell the 901's if you can or just take the loss as a lesson learned, and start listening to some of the fine budget speakers that are around now. I would recommend visiting a Bose forum for more help, I believe at least one exists out there in the e-ther. You'll be hearing more from me in the near future. Don't buy any repair kit. Contact Bose and send them to repair.Bose sent me the service manual gratis, there where some well hidden clips and stuff, made it simple to take apart, without service manuals, things re difficult, there is always one secret clip or screw that will get ya. I was impressed that Bose provided the info and parts on an obsolete product, as they do not really support the old cassette types further than the belts. The thing is 20 years old and going strong. They do stand behind their stuff, that's one good Bose thing. My father had a Bose wave radio, tuner died, simple ckt board assy, they fixed it no charge even when it was well out of warranty, ya pay up front as they are pricey, but at least they back it up, and the parts are not that special or pricey, but free labor and shipping too! Parts fixed it, I praise them for having the schematic it allowed me to take it apart, nice exploded diagram, FREE!! But they do seem to wanna sell ya new stuff, instead, which is normal, that's what they are there for. There is a limit to how old stuff can be worked on, for a mass fi type product. Unlike McIntosh, Audio research, AVA, different type of market. Even pro brand stuff is more parts friendly, but Bose did come through with my parts and info to keep mine going for another 10 years.www.daynapidhoresky.com/ckfinder/userfiles/files/boxford-lathe-user-manual.pdfTheir web site is If you want a speaker cone or two, or any other speaker parts you might want to get a hold of Rob at Makin Waves Ph: 520-647-7193 Was it difficult? Actually less than it was made out to be. But I live in a relatively humid area, the glue drying quicker in a dry region might make it more difficult. Also gluing the outer, then the inner edge was unnecessary, you can do both together - quickly. Re getting the cone centered is not that dramatic, it is easy to find the sweet spot and then release your pressure and tap the already glued inner edge of the surround to seal that (I suspect they also self-centre themselves too). Not having a crossover DOES help, lovely voices (playing Frank Sinatra at the moment) via a domestic 45W RMS Yamaha AVR. A speaker either has it, or does not. Most don't. IMHO my now 3 transducers DO. The equalizer that came with it also reduced the hz after 15k dramatically. There is a new trend of replacing the equalizer with a digital signal processor with better and smoother graph. Something went wrong. View cart for details. All Rights Reserved. This is often important to understand whether you are dealing with particular kinds of information and it can be especially useful once you have a great deal of data to categorize. To begin with, in case you've got a selection of information to classify, then you want to start with a UML diagram. In order to obtain some insight into what the diagram looks like, then you'll have to look at what is being revealed as the contents of this figure. For example, consider a graph that shows a man walking down a road. In this case, you will observe that the person's size, which can be represented by a line, is of special significance. It's clear that if the man were to appear as a solid thing, then it would be easy to differentiate from other objects on the road. But if you alter the size of the guy to be exhibited by a number, then you can easily see how this affects the view of the whole figure. The other categories of information that appear from the figures are helpful, but nothing is going to be shown if the picture itself is not complete. To be able to signify the totality of data contained in a specific part of a map, you'll have to utilize either a legend or a overlay. For example, in the preceding illustration, the usage of a legend will indicate the different areas of the man. Overlays, on the other hand, will demonstrate all of the data associated with that section of the map. To be able to indicate the entire extent of data, the overlay will be displayed as a solid colored outline. By changing the color of the outline to indicate the kind of information related to it, you can determine the whole extent of the respective factors, which is helpful for identifying the different classes. By creating an overlay, you'll have all the information that you need to adequately represent the data that you need. If you're likely to be operating with numerous points within an aggregation, then you will have to start with the identification of what multiplicities are being used. To do this, you can use either a legend or a overlay. In addition, you might also opt to utilize the multiple classification of a string of certain values, which can be called a number course. If you're likely to determine numerous categories, then you will need to pick the preferred method. Whether you're employing a legend or an overlay, or employing a mixture of both, you will still be able to identify the different multiplicities through the usage of the various procedures. When you've determined the best method, then you'll have to take some opportunity to comprehend the basics of UML. This may be done by learning the fundamentals of GIS or you can learn it by making use of a UML software package that's been created specifically for this function. This can also lead to them falling apart before 95dB on complicated tracks that are also bass heavy. For instance most Chemical brothers tracks are limited to about 85dB just because the full range drivers just can't do everything at once.If you sit and listen critically you will be met with harsh treble and bloated bass. Adjusting the EQ to fix these problems will leave the speakers sounding dull as it turns down all of the treble when the worst problems in the cone breakup range above 5k. Bass response is harder to nail down, it's hard to get away from the muddy bass, and honestly the Bass EQ options seem limited to either bloated bass or no bass. Some simple instrumental tracks sound good, but anything with female vocals or cymbals should be avoided. These speakers can be used in a party scenario, and will impress most drunk people with the quantity of sound they produce. My neighbors had to deal with 95dB sine sweeps for 3 hours straight, and then pink noise for another hour. I think you will find the results are totally worth it though. This the most quiet axis of the speaker, so it's not as important as other measurements, but this is definitely not a good start. We are seeing bass response down into the 30's and a jagged sloping response to the treble and a massive 7kHz peak. The jagged response is probably due to baffle reflections, and comb filtering from the 9 drivers all doing the same thing. It's damn near impossible to make out what is happening here, but generally the response gets much louder as you move around the back of the speaker. On the bottom we have the front power response, this is an average of 0-60 degrees. On the top we are looking at the rear power response, an average from 120-180 degrees. Yes, the rear is about 10dB louder, than the front. It's an average of all of the off axis measurements, or the total power response of the speakers, and it's flat. Normally a power response would be tilted to show a roll off of the treble, but it's hard to say that it's wrong given the strange dispersion pattern. Maybe this was the intended goal of the speaker, or maybe it's just a coincidence. This measurement was taken slightly above the axis of the speaker to better represent the suggested listening height. The red measurement is with the speaker 12 inches from the back wall, and the blue one is 18 inches. These are very similar, with the 12 inch being a little nicer. Also, note that the 7k peak is not hidden by the boundary, rear speaker interaction, or even being off axis vertically.I continued on like this until, finally I ended up cutting everything a little. While it definitely sounds better, the correction is far from perfect due to the inherent irregularity of the speakers response. He went through the trouble of designing excellent five inch whizzer-less full range drivers and stuffed 9 of them in a clever box, While it has plenty of flaws, I respect it's performance, blasting off faces and painting walls with sound in a way that no other speaker can.First priority is to get a subwoofer, crossing over to a sub as high as 90Hz can really clean up the sound of the speakers, and will give even more headroom. The second priority would be to add a dome tweeter to the speaker. A stand alone enclosure that sits on top and crosses over to the 901's around 3k with something like a minidsp would fix all of the cone breakup and much of the comb filtering issues. Doing all of this should still leave most of the imaging tricks intact and while it does add considerable cost, there are worse things to do with your money.Micca COVO-S Review!
