I checked my local tool hire company and they wanted ?25 per day. I had heard of multi cutters of course but thought that they seemed ineffective. How wrong I was. I did my usual and searched the web. As per usual Amazon had the best price on this Bosch item. Since I have had it I have found a second job for it so that would have cost me 2 x ?25 from the hire shop. The Amazon price for this item is ?60. I am sure that I will find plenty of jobs to do within the family, PS, The range of saw blades available is fantastic.They have a different attachment to all the other multi tools, don’t be fooled by the ?60 price tag when it’s 45-50 for a set of blades. Very disappointing, I would return it if I hadn’t used It.The first, an entry level model, lasted several years and helped me through lots of projects. It finally gave up the ghost about six months ago which made me buy the previous generation of this tool - the Bosch PMF 250 CES. It has an identical name but has one crucial difference. I looked up the same model number and noted it said that a newer model was available - exactly the same name but the phead of the unit was more black rather than the red locking system I was used to. I didn't think much of it and ordered it for next day delivery. It turned up about half an hour ago and I immediately unpacked it, grabbed my blades and got ready to get back to work. Only, I couldn't see how to get my blades to fit on. The previous locking system was super quick and fine and this looks to be pretty similar but maybe a couple of seconds faster. The biggest problem is that Bosch have made this system proprietary so you can no longer use standard multi tool cutting blades. You have to use official Bosch blades. The 10 pack of blades I usually buy on Amazon is ?12.99. The official Bosch ones that do a similar job are ?14.40 for 1. I know this is my fault, I should have checked that my blades would be compatible with the new unit, but honestly, I just assumed ordering the same model number as I did 6 months ago wouldn't have been a problem. Bosch clearly are making this change to force people to buy their overpriced blades. Anyway, buyer beware. The 'older' model with a red handle is a better buy as you can use the cheaper third party blades!Includes 3 sample tools, but nothing really serious, so you need to buy those separately - once you work out what you need from the confusing array. Try the supplied tools first as they will help you decide on what you really need. What is confusing is that the OSL blades which work with this CAN be used on older Bosck multitools. They literally snap on, and with a turn of the lever, pop right off. Because of the numerous contact points of the blade connection, I am finding that the power transfer feels stronger and there is no slop at all in the blade movement. And you still have all of the angles of attachment too. The unit itself is a beast. 4 amp motor is top in its class, so there is no lack of power even at the lowest setting. The housing is bombproof, but fortunately the tool is fairly light at 3.5 lbs and feels good in the hand with significantly less vibration than cheaper units. Noise level is less than expected for a multitool. As for uses, just go on youtube. This tool is a lifesaver for doing your own renovation work. Just for removing old caulk, this unit was worth its weight in gold. If you are debating about this unit versus ones that still take OIS, I would note that OIS blades are alot cheaper and there are generics out there. However, I would expect that even the cheaper units will catch up with the new blade attachment system in a few year, so why buy into the old tech unless you are simply destroying tons of blades. In all, I am super happy with the GOP 40.It is very well made, heavy duty, and shows the quality manufacturing that is typical of Bosch. But my first job with the tool was to scrape and sand of houseful of old, beat up storm windows and I really needed the detail sander to help with the prep work. Unfortunately, the sandpaper that comes with this tool and the sanding head are useless. Every sheet of sandpaper I tried vibrated right off the head within two minutes of using it. I used light pressure, firm pressure, different angles and so on, but not a single sheet of the sandpaper held. If sanding isn't on your list I would say this is a great tool for most other tasks.It's done a great job. I only have two problems with it. First: I wish I had known that it has a big brother aimed at contractor work before I bought this one. The bigger the better when it comes to multi-tools in my opinion. I use it for scraping, cutting, sanding, cutting off caulk etc. The uses are endless. Bosch quality cannot be beat.The blade release system doesn't function properly most of the time. I was hoping it would loosen up after the first few times but no luck. It will release the blade no problem but get's hung up in the released position even with the handle in lock position. So when I install another blade I have to pop it back locked with a flat blade screwdriver. That makes it a bit of a pain.But for detailed cutting a charm.I'll give a quick example. I did natural slate tile in my recreation room, and while installing base moulding I noticed huge gaps between trim and floor because of uneven tiles around the perimeter. This little gem allowed me to shave high spots off the tile, which allowed trim to lay perfectly flat!! During same install, I didn't like grout after it dried too bright. In about 30 minutes this tool had it all removed. I like the non abrupt, soft start feature. Tool feels very balanced in my hand, and has a very long cord which eliminates need for extension cord most of the time. One of my most important go to tools that I have!!
